When Genes Really ARE The Problem (FAP) w/ Michael Caprio

from The Health Detective Podcast by Functional Diagnostic Nutrition · host Reed Davis

One of our favorite parts of bringing The Health Detective Podcast to our listeners and viewers is that we get to highlight guests who deal with conditions that many of us would otherwise never hear about. Today's guest on the show, Michael Caprio, deals with a genetic condition that you very likely haven't heard of. At just eighteen years old, author Michael Caprio was diagnosed with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, a rare genetic form of colorectal cancer that accounts for only 0.5 percent of all colorectal cancer cases in the United States. After enduring two life-saving operations, Michael has since made a full recovery and has become an author, advocate, leader, change-maker, and podcast guest in the spaces of mental health and colorectal cancer. Although this story is bit different than the ones we would typically bring on the show, we think it is important to not only give a spotlight for those dealing with conditions such as FAP in silence, but for the listeners and viewers to find inspiration in the incredible resiliency and determination that people like Michael display.
