When God Feels Far (John 14:18-24)

So far, the disciples enjoyed a relationship with Jesus that was like any other they had known in the sense that they spent time with him, saw him, and heard him speak to them. But with all of that about to change, the makeup of their relationship would change as well. No longer would they have his presence or his audible voice to sustain their friendship. Now with him going away, that relationship, while still intact, would be built on faith, love, and submission. For today’s disciples, nothing has changed. The strength and intimacy of your relationship with God rest upon faith, love, and submission.
