Why Intimacy With God Comes First | Communion Over Community, Part 1 with Cassie Rajewich

When my family moved back to my hometown after I’d been gone nearly 18 years, two questions kept coming up: “What church do you go to?” and “What neighborhood do you live in?” You guys, you would’ve thought those two questions were going to be the death of me. 😅 Especially the church one. So much had happened between the Lord and me in those 18 years. What I wanted to ask was, “What is He doing in your life?” But here I was, coming home and asking the Lord a question of my own: Were we missing something He was asking us to do, or did I just want Him to tell me to go to church and be like everybody else? One afternoon, standing in my kitchen, I heard it: Communion over community. In this opening episode of Season 2, I’m sharing the story behind those words and the sweet and sacred invitation I heard in them: to sit with the Holy One before sitting with the crowd. I love being around people. That’s part of why this word has asked more of me than I expected, especially when it touched a community my family had come to love. How I picture abiding and communing: abiding is the soil we put down roots in; communion is the watering, the daily conversation with Him. What the Lord showed me about my own motives when I felt Him asking me to step away from a community that was dear to us. One question I’ll leave you with, because I’ve had to sit with it myself: Is there a yes I keep giving out of fear, even as I sense the Father asking something different of me?
