When Grief Meets Injustice: A Sister’s Story of Love and Legacy

from Unspoken Emotions · host Rachel Elimelech

In this heartfelt episode of Unspoken Emotions, Ashleigh Rogers shares her deeply personal journey of grief following the tragic loss of her brother, Ben, in a preventable car accident. As she recounts the devastating moment she received the news, Ashleigh reflects on the anger and heartbreak that followed, particularly when learning about the circumstances surrounding the accident and the subsequent legal proceedings.   KEY TAKEAWAYS The Impact of Grief: Losing a loved one, especially in a preventable accident, can lead to profound feelings of anger, heartbreak, and a sense of injustice. The Importance of Support: Having a strong support system is crucial during times of grief. While many people may not know what to say or do, simply being present and offering companionship can provide comfort. Turning Grief into Action: The Ben Rogers Foundation was established to advocate for stronger laws to protect young drivers and their passengers. The Need for Change in Driving Laws: The conversation emphasizes the importance of implementing graduated licensing laws for new drivers, which could significantly reduce accidents involving young drivers. Cherishing Memories: Remembering and celebrating the life of a loved one is vital in the grieving process. Sharing stories and memories can help keep their spirit alive and provide comfort to those left behind.   BEST MOMENTS "Losing a loved one is devastating, but losing them in a way that feels entirely avoidable adds another level of pain, anger and heartbreak." "I think it was around about a year and a half until it even got to court. The sentence that they both had was next to nothing." "After his passing, I felt like life was way too short... Just spend time with everybody that you love and make sure they really know how much they mean to you." "If these driving laws had been in place... do you think this tragedy would have been prevented?" "I think I had all the support that I could have ever wanted... I really wish that I'd taken at least the first week just to sit and think about what had actually happened."   To connect with your guest Ashleigh Rogers:  Insta: https://www.instagram.com/benrogersfoundation/ Links: https://www.facebook.com/share/1FeZxDR6P2/?mibextid=wwXIfr   To connect with your host follow Me HERE: Insta: https://www.instagram.com/rachel_unspokenemotions/  TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@rachel.unspoken.em Email: [email protected] Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rachel.elimelech   To Buy Rachel a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/unspokenemotions  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachel-elimelech-a07a1a46/  To join the waitlist for Rachel’s Unspoken to Unstoppable Breakthrough Programme - email [email protected] quoting reference “Breakthrough" HOST BIO Rachel Elimelech is the warm, courageous voice behind Unspoken Emotions - a podcast that gives voice to the feelings we so often keep buried. Empowered by Darkness Andrea Medina Hi, I’m Andrea Medina. Though I’m in my early 20s, the history of relational trauma in my family lineage coupled with my own father’s abuse and abandonment, has instilled in me a self-awareness and sensitivity to emotions from a young age. I was born in México and raised in Compton, a community where I didn’t have many mentors or influences that pointed me in the direction of emotional healing work. Still, I went on to publish The Energized Self: A Journey to Interconnected Healing, a book that is half memoir and half conversations with trauma survivors at the age of 22. This same year I began my public speaking journey and my master’s program to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. As I find myself rising to fulfill my soul’s calling today, I am still in the same location where conversations like the ones had in this podcast aren’t common. I’m also faced with a myriad of economic and social challenges that I know listeners will relate to. My goal is that Never Alone Infertility Morgan and Madison Never Alone is a podcast for women navigating infertility, loss, and everything in between. We’re two friends whose paths intertwined during our own walks through infertility, and we understand how isolating and overwhelming the process can be. From the uncertainty of IVF to the heartache of miscarriage and the patience required in moments of waiting, we’re here for you.Join us each week as we have real and raw conversations about the challenges and emotions of walking through infertility and loss – both from our own experiences and speaking with other women. We’re glad you’re here, and hope you feel seen, supported and most of all know that you’re never alone. THINK BIGGER, THINK BETTER Paul Gibbons THINK BIGGER, THINK BETTER presents the 21st century’s leading entrepreneurs, scientists, philosophers, public intellectuals, and business and political leaders as they discuss the most important issues of today.
