When Healing Ambushes You - The Difference Between Coping and Actually Getting Free

from Unspoken Emotions · host Rachel Elimelech

Recently, I had a completely unexpected encounter. I was meeting someone for work — an ordinary, professional conversation. And then, completely out of nowhere, it turned out he knew my story. Not just knew of me - knew the details. Because he had been connected to the man who abused my son. And in that moment, something happened that I genuinely did not expect. The feelings came back. The anger. The guilt. The grief. All of it - suddenly as raw and immediate as it had ever been. Even though years have passed. Even though I have done so much work. Even though I thought I was past this. And it made me ask a question I want to bring to you today. What is the difference between coping with something and actually healing from it?   In this episode, I share:   •       My own story - what happened to my son, what it cost me, and how I rebuilt •       The unexpected encounter that ambushed me with feelings I thought were buried •       Why coping and healing are not the same thing - and what the difference actually feels like from the inside •       What healing really requires, and why so many of us never quite get there •       Four practical things to do when old pain finds you again •       Why being ambushed by old feelings is not a sign that you have failed   ★  MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE  ★   The 5-Day Emotional Freedom Challenge Five days. Live on Zoom. A small group of women. Real tools for releasing what you’ve been carrying. £47. 5 Day Emotional Freedom Challenge unspokenemotions.co.uk

Empowered by Darkness Andrea Medina Hi, I’m Andrea Medina. Though I’m in my early 20s, the history of relational trauma in my family lineage coupled with my own father’s abuse and abandonment, has instilled in me a self-awareness and sensitivity to emotions from a young age. I was born in México and raised in Compton, a community where I didn’t have many mentors or influences that pointed me in the direction of emotional healing work. Still, I went on to publish The Energized Self: A Journey to Interconnected Healing, a book that is half memoir and half conversations with trauma survivors at the age of 22. This same year I began my public speaking journey and my master’s program to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. As I find myself rising to fulfill my soul’s calling today, I am still in the same location where conversations like the ones had in this podcast aren’t common. I’m also faced with a myriad of economic and social challenges that I know listeners will relate to. My goal is that Never Alone Infertility Morgan and Madison Never Alone is a podcast for women navigating infertility, loss, and everything in between. We’re two friends whose paths intertwined during our own walks through infertility, and we understand how isolating and overwhelming the process can be.
