When Life Breaks You: Finding Purpose in Pain

from The Squad Podcast with Coach Tocha Moore: Purpose, Pain & Personal Growth for Women · host Tocha Moore

We'd Love to Hear your Feedback!Grief can either break us completely or break us open to a new purpose. Kim Clora chose the latter path after losing her mother to breast cancer in 2005. What began as overwhelming anger and sadness transformed into a mission that now touches countless lives through the Jacqueline Rogers Foundation."I was the meanest thing walking," Kim candidly shares, describing her initial response to grief. "I was mad at God. I was mad at everybody that was happy. I was mad at everybody that was sad." With remarkable vulnerability, she reveals how losing her mother—her greatest supporter and advocate—left her feeling like "a motherless child" for the first time, struggling to function in a world that kept spinning while hers had stopped. The turning point came through a combination of loving confrontation from friends, reflection on her mother's legacy, and ultimately, the decision to honor her mother by helping others facing similar battles. Today, the Jacqueline Rogers Foundation provides financial support to women battling cancer—with a crucial difference from other organizations. Recipients can use the funds however they need, without restrictions. "Your car payment may be needed, insurance may need to be paid, your kids need shoes on their feet," Kim explains. "Life doesn't stop because you've been diagnosed."What makes Kim's story particularly powerful are the wisdom gems she drops throughout our conversation: "If you tell me no, that means you're not a part of my journey—it doesn't mean the journey stops." And perhaps most liberating for perfectionists: "Do it messy, because messy you can clean up. Perfection is a problem."Through fashion shows featuring cancer patients on the runway, community fundraisers, and her upcoming "Beauty in Brokenness" workshop, Kim demonstrates how grief can become a gateway to purpose when we choose to carry our loved ones with us rather than feeling we've left them behind.Ready to transform your own pain into purpose?
