When Obedience Feels Too Costly | Trusting God Beyond Your Fear with Keri Steele

from Thinking That Matters with Elizabeth Mahusay · host Elizabeth Mahusay

Sometimes the greatest barrier to your calling isn't your circumstances, it's the story you're telling yourself about what obedience will cost. In this episode of Thinking That Matters, I sit down with Keri Steele, founder and executive director of Little Hearts of Hope, an organization serving children who have a parent or sibling battling cancer. After losing her husband to cancer while raising three young children, Keri found purpose in her pain by creating a ministry that equips families with healthy coping skills through play, art, and creative expression. Together, we explore the limiting beliefs that keep us clinging to security instead of trusting God's leading. Our conversation is an honest reminder that while obedience often feels costly, God can use our hardest seasons to grow our faith, deepen our trust, and reveal purpose we never imagined. In this episode you'll learn: Why perceived security can keep us from your calling How limiting beliefs fuel fear and self-doubt What obedience has taught Keri about God's faithfulness Why healthy emotional coping matters for children experiencing grief How God can bring purpose from life's most painful seasons Reflection: Where might your desire for certainty be keeping you from taking the next faithful step?
