When the Map Runs Out: Finding Purpose on Uncertain Ground
from Elsplend Realities Hosted by Elo Oghenevwede Splendour
What happens when the path you've followed for decades no longer provides clear directions? In this episode of Elsplend Realities, we sit down with Jeff Ton, former technology executive, author, and reflective traveler, whose six-year journey retracing the historic Lewis and Clark Trail became much more than an exploration of American history. It became a profound lesson in uncertainty, partnership, caregiving, and personal transformation. After spending 45 years in the structured world of technology leadership, Jeff found himself drawn into a different kind of journey—one that invited him to slow down, embrace ambiguity, and discover meaning beyond achievement and certainty. Through his experiences on the trail and in life, he developed the concept of "conjectural ground"—those seasons when the familiar map no longer works, yet the next destination remains unclear. Together, we explore what it means to navigate life's transitions with courage, how long-term relationships evolve through changing seasons, the lessons hidden within caregiving, and why some of life's most sacred insights are found in ordinary moments and overlooked places. This conversation is for anyone standing at a crossroads, questioning what comes next, or learning to trust themselves when certainty gives way to possibility. Key Themes: Life transitions, purpose, uncertainty, self-discovery, caregiving, marriage, resilience, personal growth, meaning, and navigating change.
