Hello to you all, Andrea Butler in here, not a sideraw with the pen and ink. Now every day I put a post or most days I put a post into Instagram of one of my designs. If you want to go check that out you can Andrea Butler in our taste. I also have a Facebook page that those post into it if you want to go see the design anyway.
Today's post is a post of the biggest piece of paper that I've ever tried to fill. Now that might sound for some people to be sort of a bit of an odd post to put up there. But what I'm trying to accomplish with this big piece of paper is to actually not completely fill it but create a design that needs that size of space. Now previously what happened was the page I had just got too small.
It was like I was having to crank the designer. I started my journey on drawing, how to draw what you don't see. So if you guys don't know I start with a blank piece of paper and I just start drawing and it's quite amazing some of the things that come out. I don't have an idea for a picture before I start whatsoever.
And when I started this how to draw what you don't see I started with an A5 sketchbook. Now for those of you that don't know A5 is quite small it's half the size of your standard book which is your A4 that you put in a file that you use at school and stuff like that. So the reason I picked an A5 sketchbook is because it's so small there's just not so much white space and it just wasn't so confronting to try and front it. And by the time I finished that sketchbook I found my designs were falling off the side of it so I upgraded I got an A4 sketchbook and that actually did last for me a couple of years but then one of the last designs I did not that long ago I just thought I had to do small oh my god I need more paper.
So I decided right you need more paper if you're I was going to carry on you need a you need to go up in size but I had one real big struggle and before I could start on the big page though which was nothing to do with art whatsoever and it was all to do around money. Could I really afford a new sketchbook? Was it really essential because in our budget you know we do okay but we don't have money for extras in something paper just to draw and it's extra is was it really really essential? I do have my own little money as a pocket money that goes to the side but you know it takes a little while for that to grow and I want to have some clothes because I like my clothes and stuff like that.
And then I had all the other little struggles that were coming into my mind toe with if I start drawing on this really big piece of paper is it all going to turn mush you know if I try to do something bigger rather than doing it in a small space and so I was starting to share my work on Instagram by then and I thought well do I share it as a work in pro coats because what happens if it turns a much halfway to a halfway throat so I had all these things going on and then all these other completely irrelevant excuses start popping into my head my brain just loves to give me all the reasons why I shouldn't do something and why it's going to go wrong as soon as I'm a bit unsure of myself it's like it's just waiting you know and then it just brings all these excuses in with abundance and then at some point through this over you know a few days I realized that if my art was going to progress I needed bigger paper and you know I needed to be able to develop and as soon as I made that realization it's everything else went and I just got really really excited because I knew that because I was this excitement was there somewhere out there there would be a sketchbook I could afford that would be absolutely perfect size and everything and I just need to get out in town so I was quite excited too I like shopping so you know and especially when I put something to shop for I like an all the shops looking for the best deal and everything like that so I head off into town the first stop I go to is the local stationery store now there's some real nice big sketchbooks here that A2 which is like real big nice paper nice quality and I love them but there was no way my wallet was gonna frame it some stuff okay but they're big look at another sketchbook in there and it actually had more paper than the first one but it was nowhere near the same quality and it was still up there but there was just about enough cash in my sketchbook but it kind of wiped me out at the same time because I wasn't 100% satisfied with the paper I just thought I don't want to pay out that before that it just didn't have the best the right exchange for me it didn't feel right so I thought right we need to move on so then we move on to the discount store the local discount store my type of store and we've got one really neat one of these stores in town that just seems to stock some really nice art materials they're not the most expensive but you know they work when you put the pen you know the coloring pencil on the paper color comes out and stuff like that so I thought right I'll have a little brows around there so I got there and perfect in there I found five sheets of big white paper not the highest quality but five sheets I don't mind just for five sheets they were two dollars for three and then I found a nice coloured wallet to fuck the man that was like three dollars for three and then I found a nice rollout cork board so that I'll have something to pay my paper on because then the table I would need to use is full of holes you know because like you know they've got to investigate and I do a lot of work myself handiwork around the truck and so I got an electric drill and I'd been using the electric drill and I hadn't noticed that my kids were kind of watching me and of course when I went outside they decided to investigate the drill and how it works and stuff and not dangerous these weren't young kids but still even then it's sort of like even it's sort of around nine and ten they're still quite interested to do things probably should have known they shouldn't be drilling holes in the table at that age but they experimented with the working of the drill so my table now has some nice holes in it along with the carving and a few other bits and gouged out of it I did the carving actually quite a neat carving and so I needed something to keep my paper flat and I didn't have a sketchbook I didn't have that card that you normally have in the back of the cichl. So I got this really nice roll out card and I got all this under ten bucks I was wrecked because I could use it and I had money left in my wallet and I thought by the time you know I get further on I'll be able to afford that really nice big big sketchbook with a nice paper on. So I get home and I couldn't wait to start drawing on that white piece of paper start at the design off and the post on Instagram is actually after the second session I've been able to draw on that and my biggest conflict at the moment and the biggest thing I struggle with is actually we've only got one table and it's actually finding the time when I can get on that table and roll out my nice court board and put my paper on it and without because it's coming along and we're doing something and stuff like that so that's probably my biggest conflict at the moment but I'm so excited I'm drawing on my big piece of paper I'm not intimidated by it which is real cool I have no idea what is going to be produced at the end of this piece of paper I just keep adding to it and when I can and like I said I'm just so so excited to see what turns up on the page so keep listening and check out my posts on Instagram or on Facebook and Rebecca and I'll taste I've got a page on Facebook and if you'd like to see my designs and I'll catch up with you soon
