HOUSTON (KTRK) - A pastor is being accused of sexually assaulting a family member several hundred times for nearly a decade and even got her pregnant. Robert L. Carter, 39, a Houston-based pastor, is being charged with continuous sexual assault of a child. According to court records, the child told investigators that Carter would abuse her almost nightly, and the abuse started in 2008 when the little girl was seven years old and it lasted for almost a decade. He would offer her candy for sexual acts, which she told investigators she refused. Court documents say that Carter abused the little girl 600 times, sexually assaulting her at church and in an H-E-B parking lot. He allegedly made her perform oral sex on him and also performed sexual acts with the child, forcing himself on her while the other family members were sleeping. Carter allegedly told the child that if she told anyone, "no one will believe you." When the girl got older, she started to refuse to let him have sex with her, when he told her that if she didn't comply "I'm going to make your life a living hell," according to the arrest report. When the girl turned 16, she said she got pregnant by Carter. She would eventually have the baby in a closet and then Carter took the newborn to a fire station, according to court records. Carter is being held in the Harris County Jail on $200,000 bond. The Role of the Pastor: Before delving into the heart of the matter, it's essential to understand the pastor's role.
