When the Penny Drops

The story of the widow's mite, two small copper coins, which she drops into the treasury box at the Temple is a familiar story within Christian circles. Often the woman and her giving is lifted up as an example for us to give generously. But is that what Jesus is describing when he says of her, "she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on."  Listen as Pastor Nancy invites us to zoom out on this encounter and see the larger critique Jesus is leveling upon a social system which is exploiting the very poor and vulnerable.  Scripture: Mark 12:38-44
