When the Wilderness Talks Back

from Still, Here · host J. Brent Eaton

Scripture: Matthew 4:7Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the Lord, your God.’”Today’s ReflectionIn the wilderness, temptation questions what the Father has already declared: “If you are the Son of God… prove it.” The enemy’s offers are subtle—good things gained through shortcuts that bypass trust and surrender. Jesus refuses to grasp for control or demand signs; instead, He anchors Himself in the Father’s Word and remains loyal to His identity as the Beloved. Lent teaches us to answer our own accusing voices the same way—not by striving to prove ourselves, but by trusting the Father’s way, even when it is costly. Love in the wilderness becomes a steady, defiant yes to God over every competing voice.A Prayer of PresenceLord Jesus,When accusations echo in my mind and shortcuts call my name, anchor me in Your love. Let me feel your presence as I face those things that challenge my faith. Give me courage to refuse every easy way that pulls me from Your heart. – AmenA Prayer to Carry With YouI trust Your heart... more than my shortcutsGo Deeper (If You’d Like)This episode of Still, Here… Love in the Wilderness, is part of a 40-day devotional series during the season of Lent exploring how God meets us in seasons we would never choose. You can:• Read the full written devotion at PowerLoveandMiracles.com• Subscribe for free to receive reflections by email• Explore related teachings on The Bible Unplugged podcastEverything is available at:PowerLoveandMiracles.comSustain the WorkIf these reflections strengthen your faith, you can help sustain this work through a voluntary contribution.
