When Truth Stops Mattering

Send us a note!A carved idol can’t save anyone but we keep asking our handmade comforts to do God’s job. Pastor Carl continues in Isaiah 44, where the Lord mocks the logic of idolatry: someone burns half a piece of wood to warm up and cook dinner, then turns the rest into a “god” and prays for deliverance. It’s darkly funny until we realize how close it is to our own lives, where money, control, politics, success, and approval can become functional idols we trust more than the living God.We also talk about the way truth gets rejected one choice at a time. Isaiah describes people who cannot see what’s obvious because their hearts are hardened, and Pastor Carl connects that to Pharaoh’s story: persistent resistance can reach a point where a person no longer wants to hear God and eventually cannot hear Him. That’s why this message keeps circling back to a hard question: what happens when we keep saying, “I don’t want to listen, I’m going to believe what I want”?From there we move to Jesus’ warning in Matthew 12 about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, explained as rejecting the Spirit’s witness about Jesus and the gospel. The Holy Spirit reveals our need, shows us who Christ is, and presses the moment of decision: repent and trust the Savior, or dismiss the truth and cling to the lie in our right hand.
