His army crushed Absalom's rebellion in the forest of Ephraim. The throne was secure. And the king covered his face and wept for his dead son: "O Absalom, my son, my son! If only I had died instead of you!" Victory had never tasted so bitter. The very son who had tried to destroy him was the son he could not stop loving. The curse Nathan prophesied years earlier was carving itself into David's heart.Meanwhile, Jairus fell at Jesus' feet begging him to come heal his dying twelve-year-old daughter. But the crowd pressed close, and a woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years reached out to touch the hem of his garment. She had spent everything on doctors who could not help. Twelve years of isolation, twelve years of being untouchable, ended in one moment of desperate faith. Jesus stopped to call her daughter and tell her to go in peace. While he was speaking, messengers arrived: Jairus' little girl was dead. Too late. The delay that brought healing to one brought death to another. Or so it seemed. Jesus told the father words that must have sounded like madness: "Do not be afraid. Only believe." He took the dead girl's hand and spoke two Aramaic words that still echo through the ages: "Talitha koum." Little lamb, arise.📖 ReadingsFirst Reading: 2 Samuel 18:9-10, 14b, 24-25a, 30–19:3Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 86:1-2, 3-4, 5-6Gospel: Mark 5: 21-43⏱️ Timeline00:00 Introduction00:15 Reading I - 2 Samuel 18:9-10,14b,24-25a,30-19:302:16 Psalm Response - Psalm 8608:10 Gospel - Mark 5: 21-4310:55 Reflection - When Victory Feels Like Defeat🎧 Prefer to listen on the go?
