We don’t know what led up to his decision to leave home. Perhaps he was simply young and rebellious and tired of living under his father’s rules as most of us have supported. But maybe it was more complicated than that. Perhaps he felt like he could never measure up. So he simply stopped trying. There’s no mention of the mother in the story. Perhaps she had passed away tragically, and he was trying to outrun his grief. Maybe he had seen so much hypocrisy and mendacity in the world around him that he refused to be a part of it. Most of us have good reasons for our bad decisions. But until we come to our senses and take full responsibility for ourselves, we will never walk out of the pig pens we find ourselves in. I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope.
