When You Hit Rock Bottom

This is a tough episode and not for the light of heart. Truthfully, most of the details of all of our survival journeys are not easy for others to hear.As Mari’s story unfolds in this episode, there are two enormously difficult situations that forever shape her life forward: a rupture between her and her faith community because of her profession as a sex therapist, and then, on one horrific day, Mari was raped in her own office by a client.The two places in her life that she felt safe, the church and her work, both became unsafe.I had such a hard time interviewing Mari about these parts of her life. I wanted to quit and shut down. Her traumas were triggering so much of my past trauma.To her credit, and courage, it was important to Mari to talk about all that happened to her. She believes her story will help others come forward with their stories of molestation and rape, and hopefully get help. Thank you Mari for your incredible courage.
