What's good everybody it's it's a long time coming my friend. We are back twice born radio podcast is back We've been a long time but she left you that another episode to step to we are here. Just your boy Devon and We're Jay. I mean it's the long as been we don't forgot to do it anyway.
We are back man. It's been long already Oh, yeah, I mean it's 25. It's it's been it has been a whole thing But what's really dope is even though we are at distance away I think we're gonna be able to do this far more often than we were before technology has changed so much since we did this But last time literally we had a whole different kind of setup We had to do and all this other stuff man y'all rock with the beginning but now technology is a band We can be in a whole other part of the world and make this thing pop man. So we back Yeah, I mean just I mean to take a moment just to talk about how we used to record we used to sneak into our respective churches at midnight Bring our backpacks and our mics and everything and get set up and run the 7-11 and grab a great bunch of snacks and get to it Here we are in two different cities Far away from each other of course we've had a pandemic in that time that's shown us how to do things from home.
Yep Things we couldn't do before so, you know, thank God for technology. I'm saying we podcast from home now, baby So I think this whole episode really is dedicated to kind of catching y'all up man. First of all, I think we had 300 Some people Yeah, like 360 something Right now that's crazy the fact that we had that many people there would be clearly you'll be listening on sound cloud and all that So, you know for all those who have been hanging with us all this time You probably gonna see the notification by love and be like cool. I don't forgot wait what So this episode literally is dedicated to an occasional up.
I don't remember when the last episode was actually uploaded 327 followers the last post we had where we were tagged was in 2016 That's nine years ago I don't know if that's the last time recorded, but that's the last post the last that we had so our very first episode on SoundCloud was 14 years ago And the last one we had was eight years ago last one Yeah, so I mean it's been a minute man. I think like in that time. I've had two children Which is no no no no Caleb was born the last time we recorded for sure You mean now you have your second time. I give it you say yeah Anyway, let's catch you my man.
So I guess we got to kind of start from where we fell off I'm guessing I want to say everything kind of change when I move because we've been here We've been in Houston. Here's you guys don't know I've moved to Houston my wife and I and our family moved to Houston We've been here in our eight years. So it's probably like been like right around when we moved You know in a hurricane in our hurricane. Yeah, the year of Hurricane Harvey We on our side You know we got a call to come work at a church and we we we prayed about it and we thought the Lord was telling us to go do it And so we went we kind of took that we took that journey took that leap of faith man It was really hard and like Jay said we like literally moved Into hurricane Harvey like the day we got in hurricane Harvey was moving in that next day And so that was kind of our introduction to Houston and I can't get too far into it for legal matters and NDAs that I've signed but essentially our opportunity at that church that we were at kind of fell apart and That I'm not gonna go too deep into it but we essentially decided at the Lord was calling us to start our own church and we planted a church Well, here was funny Jay So that all that stuff happened and then like a year after we left that church or maybe two years after we left that church when the pandemic hit 2020 and For me it was wild because God do you remember that?
It was wild January bro. So like my grandmother died Kobe died Yeah, then my biological mother died and then when I'm flying to go bury my biological mother I landed to a phone call to my doctor mother my grandmother was basically in hospice And so she died and then it was so bad So she died and then I had when I flew back for her funeral the day that I flew back the day of the funeral I mean is the day that they shut down California So I've actually physically never been to my mother's actual grave because they wouldn't let anybody go because the government should We had the funeral illegally anyway came back to the church and here we are so that's that's kind of been on the Johnson's side Is that we've been transitioning in a movement? What about you? Well, well you didn't just find a church let's You know make your both in the Lord for a moment come on man.
Come on. Yeah, we I mean, yes We we we we planted church called worship encounter church. We I love this community of people We are actually in our third year now third fourth year. Yeah, so this year will be our fourth year We get to know everybody our fourth year and um, yeah, I mean this has been incredible It's you know pastoring has been different and it's come with some set of challenges and difficulties and you know J Has been I mean mad instrumental in that just about every milestone this man finds a way to make his presence known And I appreciate it so much, but yeah, I mean yeah, I don't want to come back to it.
I don't know I got some questions for you And I'm gonna make you expound on it But okay, so on the jake inside of things Let's see so as you all know If you've been following us for a long time I as a pastor have come up under Devont wife's father. Yes, sure and so he actually retired and You know moved away, which was a blessing for him to move away I forgot because our church is very attached to him and so it was it was really a struggle You know, it's kind of like a When when when someone new comes in and everyone's like calling the old like hey, he said he said it's like no No, no, no, he's the pastor now. So I don't know what you want me to do. I'm not stepping in real so You know there was a lot of that and I'm grateful that Bishop was able to get away because then he could get some rest Yeah, which is what he really needed right?
Yeah, and so once Bishop moved away And the new pastor came in Pastor Chris great pastor. We're good. I walked with him through his first year just about until his Anniversary I think his anniversary was gonna be in September I actually had been praying and God was telling me I needed to move on at the time Yeah, so I moved on from the church in August of 2020. So this is after the pandemic had started Everything was shut down.
So we weren't even actually meeting in person. Everything was being done online But I moved on from the church went and met with pastor and just you know told him, you know That's calling me to other things and and all of you know all of that and so I left I left second Baptist and basically just kind of went on my own and Do church at home for my family to to try to strengthen their understanding and knowledge and all of that good stuff Did that for four years or four years? Actually came back to second Baptist for and I really tried to stay away from second Baptist as much as I possibly could in that time frame That I was gone For a couple reasons number one it was like every time I step on the campus everybody's like where are you coming back? It's like I had not you know God hasn't called me back Right and so I'm not just gonna come back because you miss me I'm not gonna come back because I miss you I do definitely miss you, but it's very uncomfortable for me to be here Yeah, when that's the question.
I'm getting all the time. So I ended up actually Going back Kind of at the behest of my wife. I really want me to let's go. Let's go and support his five-year anniversary So we went and it's funny.
There were some things that happened during that service. There was actually an absolute giant who preached at his five-year anniversary Bishop Omer Who if you don't know who that is just looking up Bishop Omer is just amazing So I really wanted to hear Bishop Omer preach and there was something that he said in his sermon That really actually spoke to why I left some of the things that were revealed to me after I left one of the things that he spoke about was you know people getting out of the way and people allowing the ministry to grow and not try to hold the ministry down to what was and I realized that that was really one of the main reasons why why I needed to leave was to get out of the way because I was holding on to the tradition of Bishop and silently Arguing with myself about some of the changes that were being made You know what I mean? Not like necessarily going to the passion be like hey man We shouldn't do this or anything like that right? But and then also not going to anyone else but internalizing it and saying how do I feel about this?
Should this be happening the way it should be happening and all of that stuff and instead of having this internal battle consistently and And having this be a problem for me. I prayed about it And God was like well you honestly need to get out of the way so that it can do what it's going to do Yeah, I have I have something for this church and if you just want to hang on to the old you're in the way Wow, so so get out the way. Yeah, so I got out of the way We went to the five-year anniversary Michelle Omer said something someone said something to me before service You know I had a you know a dream that you and Patrick Chris had a conversation and you talked about it And I was like oh no not even that you talk about it But that you guys need to have a conversation Wow, you know it's one of those God told me to tell you type of things No oftentimes you hear that you'd be like Okay, I've got could easily tell me right um, but I also realized that during that time I was gone my own stubbornness was keeping me away as well Wow, and so there were some times where it was like, you know, you could really go and show your face and you know all of that stuff But I was like yeah, but then I'm gonna be met with those questions of when you're coming back and all of that stuff So anyway long story short We actually went to that service his five-year anniversary We talked I waited for everyone to take pictures and all that stuff I waited till everything was over and I just went up to him gave him a hug and said hey man, I'm proud of you I'm excited for your five-year anniversary And then he looked at me and he said You know I got the light on for you now This is something that he said every single time I've been there since I left Yeah, which is basically like, you know, you're free to come back whenever you want to but I this time I changed it up on him and I looked at him and I said no That's not what I want to hear I said if there's something on your heart Let's talk about it and he looked me dead in my eyes and he said I want to cover you He said I want to cover you I said, okay, let's talk So we set up a meeting and I went into office and we sat down and had shit out have a conversation And we talked about it and so My wife and I and my family we rejoined the church and we've been back for About four four or five months now since September I feel like times been flying times been flying here's the funny part and this is this is like this just happened on Sunday so You know if you if you if you're a pastor in a church and it's a traditional church and it's a Baptist church You have church clothes, right? Okay, well, I haven't worn these church clothes in a long time because I've been at home You know to do in my own church thing with the family, right?
Which does not require me to dress up You know what I mean the altars of my heart, right? So I was this this past Sunday we get dressed to go to church and I pull out a suit I put the suit pants on there's no zipper and I'm like wait, what how do I have a suit with no zipper? Instantly have to take this is like you know the the ninth hour. It's time to go dang put on the pants no zipper I'm like you got to be kidding me.
So then I put on another I put on my go-to suit, right? This is this is a suit that that you know the three-piece joint, right? I think the last time I wore it was probably in Houston as a matter of fact man I put this suit on I get to church and a button falls off when I'm dapping somebody up from the from the cuff right a button falls off from the cup and I Look down and the last button on my jacket is hanging By the thread and I'm like my my church clothes are breaking down I need church clothes So I just bring that up because it was kind of funny how that happened this Sunday And I was like man it's time because honestly if I could just put on some ones some jeans and a t-shirt I'm good every Sunday. I'm good every Sunday like that and the funny thing is is That's like you faster attire, right?
Yep. No more youth faster. We're not doing you faster. So yeah Can't just go in my uh, no in my comfy clothes.
No, it's clergy call time, baby. Yeah, so so we're back at the church My wife is ecstatic because she gets this thing again, right? Something she had been missing out on for the time My children are I say children, but they're all grown my youngest is 18 now You know with his own car and you know all that stuff. So everyone is is Grown getting older and we're working on their self-sufficiency for all of them at this point, right?
So I mean that's the catch up. Oh one more thing I will add just to share with the with the pod fam Do do do do do do done. You boys gonna be a grandpa yeah So that is happening This June, I mean the papier the do date is in June. My daughter is going to be giving birth to a son So I'm gonna have a grandson So, you know, I mean I'm excited about that now But you know we growing up growing up growing up growing up as you say that I'm just now thinking like well We started this podcast 14 years ago.
Oh man the immaturity was at an all-time high and I mean with us I'm thinking even like how was little day 14 years ago? For dog that's how wild that's how long it's been like your son went from Basically, I'm going to preschool in first grade to preschool. Yeah a full grown man. Yeah, so yes, and he's in college and all that stuff So yeah, I mean Definitely a lot has happened in that time frame.
Yeah, which is it's bananas to me to look back on it And you know from time to time why we've had this hiatus I will go in and you know listen to our podcast Yeah, because I missed it more than anything. I really missed podcasting You know the topics that we talked about and trust me there have been so many things that have happened where we have been like Hey, man, hey, you want to just do a special episode Last two months alone would be enough to fill up the whole season bro to let alone the last ten years And I mean like just random stuff like Kirk Franklin cousin out of the Sun was just like You want to do a pot? I mean to be honest with you I mean Kendrick and Drake and you know, I mean yeah Insurrection we were I mean all that stuff was happening. You know, I'm saying Kobe I mean it's it's so many different things right, you know the Dodgers win the Lakers win I mean we've had titles and you know, it's so many things because our topics have always been yes church related But you know we talk about other stuff too.
So, you know, and then now of course with the fires I mean, there's there's plenty of material to discuss which I think you have to dedicate a whole episode towards that because we ain't got it We haven't even talked about this but like there were literally like the stuff that was happening with the church Like as a big Z church in response to those fires and like God's judgment and yada yada It was just like the wild con Oh my we have to do a whole episode on that because we did episode talk about like that's not the Bible man Yes, we did. We should have a really that's like that's not God Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the headache got got a punishment us because of that and and If you thought that that was the fire that he was referencing when he said he was going to Clean the earth again. You thought that was the one it's gonna be dedicated to out to Dina in palisades Not like not that it's a one. Yeah, I mean, I don't want to get into it because I'm about to go on a tangent way But definitely the commentary about that was was amazing to me.
It's astounding how Bivly illiterate most of America is It's astounding It's unfortunate. I want to say hilarious, but there's nothing really funny about it. No, definitely look crazy You know what you know what's weird is a lot of the commentary comes from the people that claim to be fast apart that hurts the most Yeah, you know, I mean I'm sure the dedicated episode is that yeah, sure yeah I mean, but but to be honest like that. I think that's kind of like I think if we're like putting anything into this episode It's just you know how how fast time flies and how many things because like we're just talking about stuff off the top of our head But if we were to sit back and just look back at each year's like events Oh, yeah, I mean it would just be so much that we could talk I mean everything from like Bill Cosby to Diddy I mean, there's like there's like a gang of yeah, yeah, our Kelly.
I mean, Kelly. Yeah, there's things. There's things that have That at one point kind of shaped our lives But then at the same time the changes have shaped certain things like I don't listen R Kelly anymore I've listened R Kelly and forever and That's because I had a daughter and it was like once I thought all that stuff like yeah, no no We can't you know great great musician great musician. Yeah, horrible person And I'm sorry people I got to throw the baby out with the bathwater as it relates to that because I cannot sing along to Songs that I know he wrote for some underage girl or towards they were the inspiration.
I'm cool on it I'm to see that's what I mean see like that by itself is a whole subject like should Christians still listen to our Kelly You know what I'm saying should we have been listening to where first place because technically we knew Alia was You know anyway that see this all the stuff we got talk about but like yeah It's because of your heart versus the convictions and law is that what yeah absolutely there you go Oh that man and I mean even if we were to talk about now man just like that the whole plane phenomenon now like I Got a play I think we do that. I gotta play the prophecies. I'm gonna play all the prophecies about this like a plane thing and then really I'm going down that rabbit hole. Yeah, so there was I mean there's only like a couple in particular that were like when I Say spot on I mean like they called it almost verbatim before all this That's a pop-and-off but but these from from people with the with the title of profit or were these just people speaking what God Is sold them it felt more like they were just speaking with God told him But there was a plethora of other people who call themselves profit to we're dead wrong and I mean just off I mean down to the election and all that stuff man.
So I think that's gonna be a great topic I guess my question would be in these years now that we're back in it. What is your What is your aim now with the podcast like what would you say is the vision is still the same but like what would you say It's like a motivation behind it now in the whole heart Well, you know, I think like a lot of the I'll put it to you like this. I think the original vision of the podcast was really to reach out and give a Christian perspective on subjects, right? I don't think that that should change But I think a lot of what we talked about was what kind of brought us together initially which was Christian hip-hop, right?
And so a lot of the focus like you hear in our intro. It's triply, right? It was just like we were one one six to the end, you know what I mean? And it's not that we're not there now.
It's just that I think as we grow in maturity and as pastors Yeah, there's so much more hard-hitting Topics and things to talk about than to just talk about, you know, Christian hip-hop, right? We are experiencing things as pastors as parents as husbands as brothers. I mean our circles we Because we are pastors And I don't even say because we are pastors because we are dedicated and we are workmen in the church, right? And I'm talking the church as the body of Christ, but then also in the local church, right?
We see especially from a men's perspective. We see men that are struggling consistently, right and I feel like there's a need for outlet for men Not necessarily to have to speak on it because we know that men often don't want to speak on it But for them to hear about it Might change something for them, right? To know that oh you went through that because I see you at church and you seem to have it all together You got a title you got this you got that you got this wait wait you went through this too? You know what I mean?
And I feel like honestly our experience and perspective is something that is a lot more valuable than we believe Yeah, yeah And so I think I think that that through the podcast and that's not to say that it's just gonna be our voices the whole time But I think you know number one our voices carry weight to them Yeah, but then number two I think our perspectives are often different from the traditional mindset of what people would expect from pastors I agree and I think that in that where there people are going to hear a different perspective I think number one it's an opportunity for us to share the gospel. Yeah, right? But then number two, it's also connecting the gospel to today Yes, I think that many people still look at the Bible as some two thousand year old book That doesn't really have a lot of relevance today because the Bible doesn't say Internet because the Bible doesn't say you know video pornography, you know You know what I mean? Like the Bible doesn't speak up on acts.
I mean, I'll apps it speaks on acts But not on apps right and it's like yeah, but just the fact that we have technology Doesn't change what was written in a book That God breathed through these men. Yeah, right and if that's scripture if if you're not able to To translate that scripture from 2000 years ago to today I think that's what the problem is for a lot of people is that they're not able to translate the scripture Yeah, I remember doing a sermon and I I mentioned in the sermon that I don't know exactly how I said it, but I said that if you are masturbating you are sinning The amount of people that came up to me after that sermon that were like wait what I did not know that that was a sin and I'm like Yeah, okay, so maybe it's because there's not a story where you know Paul gets caught playing with himself Think about your mindset what's happening in your mind while you're doing this come on man tell the truth. Yeah, okay? Okay, okay.
Oh, I get it now and I'm like wait a minute. So You couldn't put those two together. Okay, so things need to be laid out for you Well, I feel like this is one of those grounds where we can lay out some things not to say that we're gonna be having full-on preaching sermons Of all that kind of stuff, but I think that there's a way to convey the message First and foremost without beating it into people right, but also just with the encouragement of Here's where you can go, you know, go pick up your Bible. Yeah, yeah That's what's making me really excited man is being able to combine the level of experience and stuff that we've You know, we've learned some things in these last year and again hard man.
It came hard But being able to kind of use the platform now with that level of experience We able to talk about it and you know, we have conversations anyway, man We were out next go right now. We would be chopping it up And absolutely, you know, yeah, exactly now one of the things I do want to say is is because your question was like what is your expectation? I think one thing I do want to level set is I do not want this to be anyone's church right right right right right? We have a we have a really bad thing that's happening now That thing that's happening right now is people are being church online.
Yes two places. They can't touch And hearing sermons from pastors that are online that have a huge online presence and all of that and and there's nothing wrong with that Right to an extent, but you need to get with a local body you need to get with a community Yeah, and that community can't be online. Yes, you can be a part of you know So in those church and you can send the money and all that stuff That's fine, but you need a local church because I'm telling you right now these online churches cannot hold you accountable No, and that's you don't want accountability then you're in the wrong place. You're not doing what you're supposed to be doing That's it.
I'm glad you said that I'm glad you said that because it really ends up happening is like these digital spaces become like Skate goats for people who don't accountability right yes, they want to be able to cause I can always agree I can always agree online right because you're not there when I'm doing what I'm doing exactly and this is not What I want to hold me accountable. Oh, yeah, I go to church every Sunday morning I hop online and you know, but the truth of the matter is that a lot of that is a cop out Yeah, right a lot of that is an opportunity to avoid the Honestly, it's avoiding community number one, but then it's also avoiding like, you know, someone's got to hold you accountable It's avoiding accountability and that's that's not you know, something that I believe in I really feel like, you know God intended us to be a part of a local body. Yeah It's also a misinterpretation of a church is because if you think tuning in on a Sunday is what the church is that is not What the book of acts is absolutely absolutely and even going to your local body on Sunday If you think that's what church is then then that's what's not being conveyed correctly in that church That is your that is your worship service. Yeah, your church starts when when when service ends There you go.
That's what people have to understand as well That's been addiction is the opening of the church and that you know that called a worship is the closing of the church When they called the worship in your service on Sunday that means okay We shut down everything else we are now gonna focus our time on worshiping God hearing his word and all of that And that's why you know, my pastor he says at the end of service And it's also listed in the bulletins and everything is the last thing he says is now go and serve That's beautiful. You know, I mean that's that's like, you know now go serve because that's that's what we're supposed to do Go do go do like like be church, man. Yeah, that I don't know he said that but that's a quiz on something with that I like it. I like it.
Yeah, man I'm looking forward to like what this podcast is going to the fruit is gonna yield man I really feel like it's gonna help a lot of people and especially like even more conversations like this like go find yourself a Body man go find yourself a local church somewhere in there And you know, I think what's funny is because of just how time is progressing our connections and stuff There you know, there's gonna be some people we can actually help lead them to a local body You know, I'm saying like if you're a little You know, that's a amazing church. Okay. I don't care. I don't care like that You want to get some good biblical teaching go down there You know, I mean like the time has kind of like shown us who are really true disciple makers and who are just entertainment preachers But that's another subject Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to it too man I um for me I started something in the mornings that I do that's called the morning week But it's not the same as this like that like the thing I do in the morning is more just encouraging and getting people to get up There and do what they've called to do But this is like for me where I can say something controversial that that people may not agree with but that's it's my viewpoint You know, I'm saying and you know, this now, you know, I mean like as a pastor you a lot of times you got it You got a you got to kind of edit what you say, right?
Like it's not that you're changing truth as much as like I can't be as opinionated as I want to be in certain spaces because People take it as gospel. You know, absolutely. So this is the place where we can let our hair down. We can laugh I mean for real for real dog.
It's so funny man like um today was like a really to this morning I was just telling right before I got on like it was a really eye-opening moment for me man That I think the timing of what we're doing this episode is so God man because like it's been it hasn't been a bad season But it's been a very it's been a very pruning season for our family And this has if I'm equating this to a difficulty And I don't mean this emotionally, but I guess you could say that it has been as trying is when I was homeless Mentally emotionally spiritually going on like what's going on in our church. It's like a constant battle like today I've been on the phone all day But stuff, you know, my wife and I have been dealing with you know board meetings over the last couple months that have been Harder than what we're used to. Yeah, you know, I mean, we've watched literally we have watched our income like like Like float away like my wife told me something that was wild. I was like she disappeared after the gym today I was like where'd you go?
She was like I just decided to go door-dash. I was like your door-dash like even though you're door-dashing like it's like a weird like space I was in prayer this morning and Before we move into this house the Lord took me to do the Ronomy 6 and there's a thing called the Shama prayer that the children Israel I mean literally Jewish people have been doing this for years a partner culture in that They're getting ready to go into the promised land and God basically just tells them hey when you get in there Don't forget who I am don't forget what I taught you right it upon your hearts rehearse it with your children like like Remember me when you get there and the Lord told me that we've done this house and this morning I was so frustrated with where my life was and then I had to repent Because what the world reminded me was is that I got so busy with life and so busy with ministry and so busy with trying to progress that I left him in the wilderness when I entered the promise land and And I made it I made a very repentive prayer this morning But more than that I started to go back into the times where I was feeling as connected to God more than I had been ever before in One of those times in those seasons when we were doing this podcast man like I don't think people understood like I don't think they really understand How much work went into like we're taking photos and You know say like and like you know shout out to me and shout out Jessica You know all the people like come through absolutely and we would just like we would be juiced And it would be the most inconvenient time But it didn't matter to us because we loved God love each other and we were just excited to do life man And and I remember that so like doing the podcast today almost feels like God is kind of bringing me back to that Eden state We're like it really was about the love of God and the love of community like y'all know man like Jason I talk about him out here like you know I keep calling my best friend, but like I don't really have a brother I have brothers right I have Terry I got CW I got people like that right I got Kevin but like when I talk about somebody who's walked with me through life man Jason's one of those dudes and One of the hardest things about moving to Texas was our community was like was good We had a rebuilt community and it still never felt the same right Yeah, and this is our way man of like really getting back to do what we've been called to do man Like we're brothers and Christ we're brothers in life And I think this podcast like a fruit of that man, so I'm excited for sure for sure absolutely I agree with you on that because I can remember like the very first time we went down to Texas Yeah, like yes, I wanted to see you but I wanted to see who was around you Yeah, more than anything. I want to see who was around you. You know what I mean because in my mind.
I'm like, okay Okay, well, you know And that's but that's that's kind of like that You know that thing you become protective of people that that you get you do life with right? You don't want them to be around the wrong people and you want to you want to vet everyone that's around them and every and The blessing is that the people that you're around right like they excite me so I'm like okay cool. He's good. He's good.
You know what I mean? But what you're right man that level of community has always been It's always been a special thing. It's always been a blessing And it's always been encouragement. You know what I mean?
It's always been encouragement our conversations have always encouraged me to Deep dive into the word right and help me to to stop trying to just look at it from my own mental capacity And like okay So what does God say what is God saying to me and you've always been one of those people that could just like give me like a scripture That I really need to like understand and it's not always that you'll unfold it for me But it's that you'll give it to me in an inspirational way that I can actually go in and just be like I get exactly why he gave me that You know what I mean? Yeah, and some of those things are necessary right because it's easy to just quote what somebody else gave you But it's it's better to absorb what God has given you and you disseminate it for yourself And then you give it out versus just you know just well, you know You know pass it upon said this and you know, it only means what you said versus it meaning coming from your heart So, you know, that's always been a blessing to me is to you know Get that encouragement to get in a word and get deeper and gather some better understanding But you know, it's funny because that reminds me of when we were on the cruise, right? And we're going back and forth and I'm thinking people I'm pretty sure people are like what are they arguing about? We are literally just having a a debate going back and forth I don't even remember what the topic was but it was an encouragement of us just going back and forth Yeah, don't and we were doing that every night to like three and four the boarding Hey, look at that.
Look at that behind you. I was just getting ready to say J. Your wife said you such an encouraging text message Oh, yeah, this morning was this morning or yesterday? It was just random but like it's that stuff bro.
It's that stuff like you know I'm saying and being able to do that Well, here's one thing I want to try. I listen. I'm just spending this out of you know out the air I think we should play snippets of our sermons on the podcast and then have a half a break down what we meant or break down What we said so like you know, you get down preaching you'd be like, oh, I wish I would have said that I was like, oh, man, I forgot to say that or like oh, I had a thought I think we should do I think we should have a second where we do that. That's not just me.
I believe that that is actually an amazing thing to do Because I think that what I'm going to find for all of my clips is I could have said it better really oh absolutely Absolutely, absolutely better. But why is that but like you think that for all of the all your stuff? I think for most of my clips But most of the stuff that I'm going to probably pull up is going to be older stuff where I probably don't feel the exact same way I did when I preached it You know, I mean like like my spiritual maturity has gone a little further. Yeah And so that's that's why but we can we can talk about that we kick that around for sure Or is that done?
Like how much I mean how much I mean that I don't know How long you think you would reach 30 minutes 35 Yeah, well that was okay, so that was really during the the Phase of the trial phase. Yeah, so during that time it was 20 23 it was like 23 minutes if you went over 30 It was a problem, but a problem versus a Problem I don't know how to start coming out right you're essentially ear pulled up. Yeah, yeah because I went over several times, right? Yeah But it only really became a problem if you're just repeating yourself and you're not getting anywhere So there were several there were several People who I was coming up with during that time where you know, they got their coattails pulled and all of that stuff You're giving good meat and you're going and you're going no problem with that at all There's never a problem with that But it was just all about like okay Are you just not getting anywhere and we're trying to figure out how to land a plane if that's the case then you know Or are you trying to preach the whole gospel in one sermon?
And so if you're trying to preach the whole gospel in one sermon then that that becomes a problematic thing as well So I understand like the limitations that we had yeah, I get them I think that the only part that I would say that Would probably concern me now Based on how I came up versus how I am now is really more so about the How would I say it the lack of opportunity to be visual oh Okay, you know I mean so so like yeah So like the creativity like being being creative in the sermon right and I used to tell you all the time every time you came over Preach you always with either for me or you would pull Raven right and you would pull someone and you would use them as a prop And then you know okay imagine if this and this and this and we can do all that There was none of that we could have an easel we could have like the board we could have any of that It was it was okay. You have to paint this picture with your words man. That's my dope now Well, no, that's that's that's my concern is what I feel like you know and don't get me wrong I honestly feel like there is a line to be gone as a relates to creativity That's a whole another podcast that we'll actually we'll actually get into that's a inner entertainment part There's a name I know is in the tip of your tongue But I honestly feel like you know You know we have a we have a member of our church that While while you're preaching It's consistently saying say in the word stay in the word stay in the word Wait, I don't know whether this person does it because they feel like you're You're coming out or you're you're straying away from the word or it's encouragement that you're preaching the word I don't know where it comes from. I know who says it I don't know exactly why they say it but I understand the sentiment.
I came here for the word stay in the word Yeah, you know what I mean? Yeah, and I think far too often we get away from the word and we get into the visit the visual theatrics of you know How can I captivate you visually and we're no longer talking about the Bible? Yeah? Yeah?
Yeah? Yeah, and it just becomes more of an inspirational Sermon I would really love to know that person is you have to tell me I'm lying because that's why I'm gonna be honest I would not take it positively not me. I'd be like if you don't shut up The funny thing about it is I have I hear it often when other people are preaching I don't know that I've only recognized it maybe three or four times while I was preaching and I was preaching the word during the time So it did not you know it didn't come off as if it was a problem. It was just more so like a I'm glad you're in the word is what it sounded like to me.
Hey But you know you know what it is though like you know when you're when you're preaching you're you're always going to get encouragement, right? And so I don't know I mean you know You know being in the being from the place that we're from and coming up in the churches that we've come up in There's always going to be feedback Right some of our brothers and sisters don't necessarily understand how to preach through that feedback And then they might think that that that someone's being disrespectful or what have you because they're responding But when you come up in that there's an expectation that there's going to be some response as a matter of fact There are some of us that overdo the need for response. Yes. Yes, right And rely on it real time.
I mean so you know it's a thing man It's about to me that you're over time. I was preaching no This wasn't in the This was each our we charge yeah Oh wow Okay, I said you feel it's a fancy free we don't see we don't get into it And everybody thinks they know better than you but oh that I love my church, but I literally had people said I joined the church because I thought you needed some guidance I had some people tell me that and I was like oh I said wait man. I appreciate that I appreciate that You should probably find another church you probably should you probably should and and I want And as you leave I want you to know don't do that where you're going don't do that no Because you think that that they need that that pass or these guidance because that's the wrong motive That is a horrible motive. That is a person who thinks that they are about to take over.
Yes. Yes, please don't give me started When I tell you I tell you I tell you I'm gonna stick to the shamans and I would just simply say this is that? When you come up under who you've come up Under and they have laid out things for you and you have seen and sometimes you even get a chance to see them make mistakes Yep And they're they're free with sharing. Hey, this is a mistake.
I made yeah They're free with sharing that information that sets you up. It's when a person is so prideful that they will not show you the mistakes that they've made Because they're in leadership over you. Yep, that's where you're gonna be taken advantage of by that church that you now We are over because you never saw the person struggle the way that they were actually struggling you saw their representative on Sundays Yep, and so it's important I think for you know those pastors that are raising up the next generation of pastors that Number one you're candid with them. Yeah about the things that are happening.
You don't have to name names You don't have to give you know All of the details But you have you need to make sure that the people that are under you that are learning are understanding the gist of what happens So that if you see these things coming your way they know how to respond Yes, because like you said if a person joined your church thinking that they were that you needed guidance. Oh my gosh You have you have accepted a problem into your congregation and and we're talking about the leaven that spoils the whole I Alert that that a new episode has come online Radio whether that be on Apple on Facebook wherever it shows up I'm excited to see that because I know how many people have been asking us Yeah, since we stopped making episodes like are y'all ever gonna get back to it? You guys keep saying you're gonna come back and do it and you know look I'm sorry y'all life was life and there's a lot of things that have happened, but here we are with that We reloaded baby. We ready.
Yeah, we stacked like the Dodgers, but you know You'll see you'll see I can't wait man. So that's what's up Alright, well that was this has been our first episode bag and I don't know if you want to start with new numbers So we just start from number one again, but I just add on to what we already got That's the first season our first season is over like like five years True like the evolution of podcasting has changed Video at all we're just doing audio right now, but you know Bro this generation is even no podcast without video now It wasn't even an option back then That's crazy. Well, this is quite some radio. This has been an amazing time.
This is your boy. Don J and J and we will be back on the next episode. Thank you all for tuning in
