(7th Sunday of Easter; Sunday after the Ascension - The Rev. Cn. Lizette Larson-Miller) The Seventh Sunday of Easter and The Sunday after the Ascension leave us in the tension between Jesus' departure from his earthly life and his promise to remain with us always. Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles has the apostles standing and gazing up as Jesus ascends to "sit at the right hand of the Father", but our readings from the Gospel of John throughout Easter repeat again and again that Christ will not leave us, "I will not leave you orphaned." What are the ways in which we, individually and communally, encounter the living God and know that God is present in our prayer, in our gatherings, in the sacraments, and in our lives?
