Wherever You Walk You Leave Footprints - Monique Hodgson
from The Mandala Effect Podcast · host Roseanna Croft
Monique Hodgson is founder of Mumble forum, a platform whose mission is to inspire social change, empower mothers and encourage future generations. She’s a woman who wears many hats and speaks about the stigma of motherhood and how she’s redefining it for women all around the world. KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCAST Monique is an expat and diplomat working in London’s Panama embassy and runs a non profit organisation for women and mothers empowerment called Mumble Forum. She started off her journey based on her love of fashion and wanted to study fashion design but on her mum's advice studied fashion business first so that she could learn to sell. After 4 years in Milan she realised the fashion industry wasn’t a right fit for her but with her knowledge of how to create intangible value and her love for branding she pivoted and moved to London and pitched herself to the Panama embassy that she could help promote Panama but helping with country branding. She also has aspirations to get involved with the United Nations because the values they have really resonate with her. Motherhood was a transformational experience for Monique and one that woke her desire to create a better world for her children and future generations where young girls do not have a limiting view of what motherhood is or what can be achieved after motherhood which was when Mumble Forum began and the mission is to inspire change and empower mothers and encourage future generations. Legacy for Monique is about what you leave behind, it’s about the positive differences you have made to someone's life or can be an organisation that you leave that will inspire others. Legacy also has a figurative meaning of passing a torch which can be a lovely piece of jewellery. Monique talks of a vintage ruby ring from her grandma which has a wonderful story. It’s a tale about strength and independence and how her grandma bought herself the ring as a treat to congratulate herself on her sacrifices and what she had achieved as a single, divorced mum who rose through the ranks in the army in a time where this status was frowned on. Wearing it reminds Monique even when things are hard, if you have a goal, it is possible to achieve it. Her closing advice is to look around and try to pursue the one thing that drives you that comes natural and try and link it to a purpose where others benefit.
