After playing the Sierra Sounds near the creek, his dogs later refused to leave the porch while he heard eerie, chimp-like vocal responses coming from the darkness. About a week later, the activity escalated when loud, forceful tree knocks erupted near his home, sounding like a bat striking wood. Even his highly trained protection dogs were visibly shaken. Each time Joey tried to record the sounds, they stopped, only to begin again farther away.Joey also reflects on other unsettling experiences over the years, including being seemingly followed by dueling owls near the Potomac and, more recently in 2025, spotting an unusually large canine crossing the road.
