White Feminism with Koa Beck
from The Feminist Mom Podcast · host Erin Spahr and Koa Beck
Today I am speaking with Koa Beck, author and journalist. Koa Beck is the author of the acclaimed nonfiction book “White Feminism: From the Suffragettes to Influencers and Who They Leave Behind.” She is a recipient of both the Alan Jutzi Fellowship at The Huntington and the Joan Shorenstein Fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School. She lives in Los Angeles with her wife and foster children. Most recently, her essay titled Nanny of the State was published in the Massachusetts review where she details how gender mythology dictates who gets deemed a good mother on the state level and how children are routinely and legally taken from their families to be placed in homes like hers.Mentioned in this episode:Read “Nanny of the State”: https://www.massreview.org/sites/default/files/28_64.4Beck.pdfListen to the audio version on https://massreview.org/Read “White Feminism: From the Suffragettes to Influencers and Who They Leave BehindRead Torn Apart: How the Child Welfare System Destroys Black Families–and How Aboltion Can Build a Safer World by Dorothy RobertsFollow Koa instagram.com/koabeck and twitter.com/KoalaniFollow Erin on Instagram: instagram.com/feminist.mom.therapistLearn more about Erin: erinspahrtherapy.com Support the podcast with a monthly donation: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/feministmompodcast/supportPlease note: The information provided on this podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only.
