The Church now has its first-ever American Holy Father: Pope Leo XIV. Not only is he U.S.-born, but he's also:   -A naturalized citizen of Peru   -A member of the Augustinian order (the first Pope from that tradition!)   -A passionate missionary with boots-on-the-ground evangelization experience     “Peace be with all of you.”: His First Words to the World   Ashley Noronha joined Drew live from Rome to unpack the Pope's first homily, his stylistic choices, and what his election means for the global Church.      Inside the Conclave: A Peek Behind the Veil   🔥 Cardinal Tobin shared a moving moment: seeing Cardinal Prevost with his head in his hands before the results... the weight of divine calling heavy on him. Once he accepted the election, though, he looked like he was born for it.      First Mass: Themes from Pope Leo XIV's Homily   Here were some key themes:   Evangelization: A deep call to spread the Gospel with joy, especially where faith is marginalized or mocked.   Secularism: A warning against “practical atheism”: living like God doesn’t exist while chasing wealth & power.   Youth: A priority for guiding the next generation into truth.   Unity & Missionary Zeal: Drawn from his own experience.... get ready for a Pope who goes out to the margins.   Holiness 🙏: Not optional... the source of transformation for the Church and the world.     Vestments, Red Shoes & Symbolic Style   When he first appeared on the balcony the day of the election, Pope Leo wore traditional papal vestments (including the red mozzetta), which Ashely sees as a visual nod to continuity and tradition.   He didn't wear the red shoes though... just his regular ones. The red shoes are meant to represent martyrdom, reminding us that the Church is built on sacrifice... even unto blood.      American Reaction in Rome: Still Processing   Ashley said many folks are still in a daze, marveling at the magnitude of the moment. But the U.S. Cardinals were clear: 👉 He wasn’t elected because he’s American; he was chosen for his holiness, missionary fire, and leadership qualities.     What’s Next for Pope Leo XIV?   📅 May 16: He meets the diplomatic corps 📅 May 18 @ 10AM (Rome): His inauguration Mass in St. Peter’s Square He’ll receive the Fisherman’s Ring, a symbol of his office as Bishop of Rome and Vicar of Christ.     ❤️ Why It Matters: Jubilee of Hope + A New Fire   As Ashley said, the timing is so providential.
