Il brano che dà il titolo all’album, l’ottavo in studio del gruppo rock inglese, è ’Who Are You’ emblematico per la band che, da due anni, non si esibiva piò dal vivo ed era alla ricerca del suo rinnovamento. L’album, che trasuda elettronica, novità, potenza e passione per Pete Townshend rappresentava un nuovo inizio, un tentativo di riconciliazione con il punk rock, la disco e il progressive gli stili che dominavano la scena della fine degli anni ’70. Il disco uscì il 17 agosto e, trainato dal brano omonimo, scalò le classifiche. La sorte del gruppo, però, sarebbe stata piò beffarda del gioco letterale tra il titolo dell’album e il nome della band. Poco dopo l’uscita del disco il batterista Keith Moon morì per overdose di farmaci, che assumeva per combattere l’alcolismo.
