Who do I stand? This is the day to disturb his podcast with Anthony Algini. We all stand someone, if only ourselves, like the Baroness in the movie Cruella, who stand herself. Alexandria David Neal, Guard Against Idols, yes, Guard Against All Idols, of which surely the greatest is oneself.
I think, essentially, we stand three types of people that don't glass in power, we stand the people whom we want to be like, or someone with something that simply blows our mind. Not the whole person, but one particular aspect of that person. Or the third kind is someone we simply wish to spend time with forever. The other day, a man I was able to do over 75 push-ups working out with my wife, why?
Because of someone I stand decades ago. The boxer Rocky Balboa, of course we know it's Sylvester Stallone, right? But it was based on a true story. So watching that movie, because I stand rocky, I ended up running at 4 a.m.
Boxing. Push-ups, of course, was part of that with my dad. Three eggs in the morning, to think about it right now though, it was a deep connection with my dad who was a former boxer, truly the most memorable and special times I had with him. Before we stand people like Tony Ferrer, you may not know him, but at the age of eight or nine or ten, we all stand him, the James Bond of the Philippines.
My wife's father. See, Tony Ferrer or Rocky Balboa, I want it to be like them. Or as I said earlier, we stand someone with something that simply blows our mind, right? Something that simply amazes us.
In my case, people like Jim Collins who wrote the book, Built to Last, Malala, Usabzai, Bono, Richard Branson, Singaporean Joseph Prince, and of course, a longtime mentor, Dr. John Maxwell, our pastor, Rick Warren, back here in the Philippines, Haida, India, our gold medalist, and weightlifting. Of course, Manny Pacquiao, and my wife's grandmother, Nini Quezon-Avan Senya. Then we have the third type, someone we simply want to spend time with forever.
I was, I think, 12 years old, and I had a dream. And who showed up in that dream? No other than Jacqueline Smith of the Charlie's Angels. And we actually kissed, I have yet to forgive that person who woke me up.
Who do you stand? You are the average of the five people you hang out with. You've heard this before, right? But let me add to that, your potential is set by the five people you look up to or stand.
Me, Jamie, when I was really little, I wanted to be a wrestler, so I could be like the girls I looked up to. My brother then told me that you don't want to be like your idols. You want to grow up and be better than them. To this day, that's the best piece of advice I've ever gotten.
And finally, another one from BB King, we all have idols. Play like anyone you care about, but try to be yourself while you're doing so.
