But what is less well understood is that none of these ‘rags to riches’ billionaires started life in the ranks of the proletariat. They are all privately educated and had access to family capital and connections which enabled them to take advantage of opportunities and put their businesses on the only footing that would enable rapid growth: the ability to employ the labour-power of others.
