Who is Paul? Who am I? - 17 August 2025

Dear friends of BCUC,Over the last decade, 'identity politics' has shaped how people see themselves and others. Some say the more marginalised the identity, the more weight it should have. Others fear it comes at the expense of more common identities.In Acts 22, while being arrested the apostle Paul shifts between multiple authentic identities - Jew, Roman, Pharisee, citizen of Tarsus - not to gain pity or power, but to connect with as many people as possible for the sake of the Gospel.He is living out what he writes to the new church in Corinth that he helped start a few chapters earlier: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel.”  1 Corinthians 9:22–23Our truest identity is in Christ, yet God can use every part of who we are to reach others with His love.
