Welcome to Series 1 Episode 14 of PR Matters - The Public Relations Podcast where we learn more about the show host - Beverley Walkden (Steele). Bev is managing director of Steele Public Relations Limited and is a former TV and print Journalist. Her clients are varied and include Government departments, universities, local authorities, and a variety of private large companies. She is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and was a judge for this year's CIPR PRide Awards. She was also crowned 'Best Female' in this year's Cheshire Business Awards and is a proud member of the 'Digital Nomad' community. Growing up Bev became interested in Journalism and PR after spending many hours reading newspapers and magazines at her family newsagents in Chorlton, Manchester. She went on to work for Paragon Golin Harris, London; a brief stint at Cosmopolitan Magazine; the Manchester Evening News and Channel M TV. She's since taken on a vast range of senior consultancy roles in the public sector and motivates and mentors teams to do their best communications work. She offers a 'Push Your Own PR' programme for those who need to learn PR skills for small businesses. She says: "It's about bringing this expert skill and advice to start-ups because that's when they desperately need this type of help. We've made it accessible and affordable and flexible so that small businesses can get ahead."
