Romans 12:1–2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV) Luke 9:23–24 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. (NIV) Luke 14:27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. (NIV) 2 Components of a Living Sacrifice 1. You must leave where you are Genesis 12:1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. (NLT) Genesis 12:4 4 So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5 He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all his wealth—his livestock and all the people he had taken into his household at Haran—and headed for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan, (NLT) Genesis 11:31–32 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there. 32 Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran. (NLT) 2. You will leave when you remember the promises of God Genesis 12:2-3 2 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (NLT) Everyone Committed 1. Everyone committed to attending 5 Sundays in a row: September 15 – October 13 2. Everyone committed to attending a small group for 8 weeks: September 8 – October 31 3. Everyone committed to making a 3 year commitment on October 6 4. Everyone committed to giving in the miracle offering October 13 – December 31
