What do you do in the moment when everything in you wants to quit, but the moment doesn’t care? Not after the call. Not in the debrief. Not back at the station. Inside the moment. In Part 2 of Why Attributes Matter, we shift from the idea of attributes into the first, and most foundational one: grit. Because this job doesn’t just test what you know. It tests who you are when pressure closes in and the margin for error disappears. Grit is the engine. The thing that keeps you moving when your body, your mind, and your emotions all start pulling in the wrong direction. We break it down into four pieces: courage, perseverance, adaptability, and resilience...and talk about how each one shows up on scene, under stress, and over the course of a career. Because the truth is, skill might get you on the truck. But grit is what keeps you effective when it counts.
