Why can't I just say yes? This is the Day of Service podcast with Anthony Onghiman. When Marcel and I got married, she set up boundaries when it came to the kinds of projects she would accept in show business, given our new priorities and principles as a couple. Right.
And our desire to build a family. So she said no to this one project. No to that one too. Another one was an almost yes.
Except for this one particular issue. It was a lot of no's. Quite a few small yeses, but several don'ts and not much deuce. So one day I asked her, hun, I think it's pretty clear what your limitations are and what you will say no to.
But I think you need to communicate better to potential partnerships and projects. If people will know what you will say yes to. Why can't we just say yes? Well, a lot of fluff.
Fluff. Whatever it is, much ado about nothing. No, you know, fluff means a lot of air, but doesn't mean anything. So I was just thinking how to say this.
But it's plhp. Okay, P. Now we can't say yes out of pride. Would you agree if I say yes to this, I might appear weak, you know, giving into something so easily.
I mean, not strong enough to withstand pressure. And then here's another issue. When comes to pride. If I accommodate this, what will others say about me?
Pride. Why can't I just say yes? Age habit. It's a default routine.
Perhaps at this stage in your life, why do you say yes? And your response would be, was there any other option? Another reason is a lack of knowledge. And rightfully so.
I know, for example, that cryptocurrencies rock as a whole. But just like the world's currencies are, some so devalued they aren't worth anything at all. Be informed. I quote right, we declare, and indeed we should.
And then of course, f fear. If I say yes, what if they ask me another question and I can't answer? Or what if they make a request I can't fulfill? And what if I say yes to trying one more time?
I only get a more painful rejection to go with it. Phlf. Fluff. The bottom line, you can say yes.
But for what are several reasons above, you have held back and chosen to say no instead. Think about it. What reason or reasons for not saying yes would you say you have been most accustomed to join me in the quest of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable? It's time to venture into saying yes.
And in the process Alan Cohen reminds us, and I quote, the key to a healthy no is to remember the yes, that the no is making space for, end quote.
