Why Cloud Bills Now Include a Data Permissions Check Fee
from Cloud Computing with Fexingo: AWS, Azure, GCP, and Modern Infrastructure Conversations Hosted by Fexingo
Episode 118 uncovers a new cloud cost that has quietly appeared on invoices from AWS, Azure, and GCP: the data permissions check fee. Every time a service (like Lambda, S3, or a database) verifies whether a user or role has access to a resource, the provider now charges a micro-transaction. Lucas and Luna break down how this works using a real-world example from a mid-sized SaaS company that saw a 12% monthly cost increase after migrating to a fine-grained access control model. They explain the difference between attribute-based access control (ABAC) and role-based access control (RBAC), why providers started charging for these checks, and what engineers can do to mitigate the impact—like caching permissions decisions and batching requests. This episode is a must-listen for any cloud architect or CFO trying to understand why their bill keeps creeping up. #CloudComputing #CloudCosts #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Technology #AWS #Azure #GCP #DataPermissions #ABAC #RBAC #CloudBilling #FinOps #CloudInfrastructure #PermissionCheckFee #CloudEngineering #SaaS #CostOptimization Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
