Why Conspiracy Theories Exist

Welcome to Day Two of Christians and Conspiracy Theories. Today, we are asking a question many people debate, but few truly understand: why do conspiracy theories exist at all? Conspiracies are not new. They did not begin with social media, elections, pandemics, or global institutions. They exist because human beings live in a broken world, where truth is often hidden, power is often abused, and trust is frequently violated. When systems fail, when authority disappoints, and when transparency disappears, suspicion naturally grows. But there is something deeper at work. Conspiracies thrive where fear replaces faith, where loss of control replaces trust, and where uncertainty replaces rest. They are often fueled by real questions, real injustices, and real wounds—but they can quickly become spiritual substitutes for discernment, intimacy with God, and peace of heart. In this episode, we will explore the spiritual, psychological, and emotional drivers behind conspiracy thinking, and why even sincere believers are drawn into it. We will look at how curiosity can turn into obsession, how protection can turn into paranoia, and how the search for truth can quietly replace dependence on God. This conversation is not about mocking questions. It is about understanding the pull, so we can walk in wisdom, balance, and Christlikeness in a noisy world. Let’s begin.
