Why did it take so long to contact the police?

from Angie McQuillin Unsilenced · host Unsilenced-Survivor's Journey

This question is the question I get asked the most - Why did it take you so long to go to the police? Why now? This is a topic I will address from the psychology side of what goes on behind the scenes of a silent survivor and what’s more the parts that are so massively misunderstood by so many. We carry myths and stigma in society and survivors are almost asked to justify why they handled the thing that they experienced (which they didn’t want to experience). I address how loaded that question is, the blame, shame and all the inbetween in this podcast and the societal myths that accompany it. I hope you find this one interesting… This is a public episode.
