Why Diets Don't Work with Denise Carr

from Make Peace With Food · host Sherry Shaban

Do you find yourself taking care of everyone else, but not yourself? When you are a nurturer, that often becomes the case. But the reality is, you’re not giving your best if you don’t feel your best. You would never guess that Denise grew up struggling with her weight and body image. Like many, she had cycled through all the different diets including the Protein bar diet, Cookie diet, Buttermilk diet, and Atkins. With each one, she would lose 20-30 lbs only to gain it back plus more. At nearly 300lbs and living in constant pain, Denise realized that it was time to focus on her self care. Today, Denise is a 54-year-old working professional, mother of 2, marathon runner, overall badass athlete, and she is training for her first Olympic triathlon in 2021. In this episode of the Fall In Love with Fitness podcast, Denise and I discuss why most people experience the “yoyo” effect after completing a diet, the trials of being a single mother and neglecting self-care, and how she got herself out of the diet mindset.
