Why Do I Feel Such Heavy Grief for Someone's Soul? God's Answer From the Man of Sorrows
from Daily Hope with Pastor John S. Dickerson · host John S. Dickerson
If you've ever felt an unexplainable heaviness or grief for someone you love who doesn't know Jesus, this message is for you, because that weight might not be something wrong with you. In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson explains why Jesus was called the man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief, as Isaiah 53 describes him, and how that same holy weight showed up during the First Great Awakening, when Jonathan Edwards and other believers were criticized by fellow pastors for weeping over the souls of the lost. Just as a mother doesn't have to work up love for a sick child, when we truly grasp what's at stake for someone's eternity, urgent and tearful prayer can follow naturally instead of being manufactured. Ephesians 4 warns against grieving the Holy Spirit through sin, but Scripture also shows the Spirit grieving through us out of love for people far from God. And here is the encouraging part: whatever grief or burden you are carrying right now is temporary, and Hebrews 12 promises there is joy set before you on the other side. This message is part of Pastor John S. Dickerson's Daily Hope devotional series on what it means to surrender fully to God, even in the hardest seasons.
