Why Do We Try To Impress Others?

from The Self Aware Leader with Jason Rigby · host Jason Rigby

Most people want to be liked and accepted by others. We constantly try to make a good impression on those around us, whether it's our boss, co-workers, friends, or family. But why do we feel the need to impress others? There are many reasons why we might try to impress those around us. For example, we might want to gain their approval or admiration. We might also want to fit in and feel like we belong. Or, we might want to increase our social status or position. Whatever the reason, trying to impress others can often backfire. When we try to impress others, we might come across as disingenuous or even arrogant. We might also end up sacrificing our own values and beliefs in an attempt to please others. So, next time you find yourself trying to impress someone, ask yourself why you're doing it. You might find that it's not worth the effort.
