Why Do Writers Write? an interview with author Kevin Spark

from Awakened Nation · host Brad Szollose

Author of the psychological thriller Id, Kevin Sparks joins us from Australia to discuss his writing process, good science fiction versus bad, the grandmother of SciFi and author of Frankenstein, Mary Shelley, losing time in a sensory deprivation chamber, and of course, Star Trek. This is a fun episode. ABOUT KEVIN SPARK: Novelist Kevin Spark has always been driven by telling stories, even as a kid. “I don’t know why or what it is that makes a writer want to write, whether it’s the spirit of self-indulgence or a need to be liked or heard? I’m certainly not arrogant enough to believe I have a message the world needs to hear. Nope, I just want to tell a good story that hopefully keeps you entertained,” says Sparks. Kevin Spark has been working as a graphic designer since leaving university, working on brands big and small, developing ad campaigns and working on various TV shows in the UK, mainly in the art department developing props. His passion for writing never ceased and he utilized the time during the Covid-19 outbreak to finally pen his first book, Id, a psychological thriller. He’s currently working on his second novel. HOST OF AWAKENED NATION: Brad Szollose

Explicit Murderville The Intercept Harris County, Texas, has sent more people to death row than any jurisdiction in the nation. Among them is Charles Raby. He confessed to the grisly murder of an elderly woman in Houston in 1992. But the evidence tells a different story — one in which the state went after the wrong man. In the second season of Murderville, Intercept reporters Liliana Segura and Jordan Smith explore faulty forensics, the fallibility of memory, and a system ill-equipped to acknowledge its mistakes.
