Let's talk, if we can, about always feeling the need to do something. Is that something that's important to you? You always feel the need to get something done? Hello, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome.
This is The Daily Grateful, I'm Michael Croes, and today we're going to talk about people who have really important needs or so they think. And my question is, do they? Do they? I don't know.
All right, met a woman today, former client, had all of these concerns. I mean, just in a immense amount of concerns, nothing to do with me. Thank God. Oh, thank God.
But she needed advice and she, you know, this person had done this, this company had done that, this company had done that to a friend of hers and she wanted to know what she was going to do about all of these things. And she had a list, man. She had written down a list of all the things, you know, well, this business needs to be turned out in, you know, to the Better Business Bureau. We need to get a hold of the county attorney's office that has, you know, something to do for consumers.
And I said, did this affect you? And she goes, well, no, but I know somebody. And, you know, I, okay. And I'm listening.
And it was just one thing after another after another, nothing concerning her, absolutely nothing concerning her. She was unhappy with the fact that the house that she's been living in for the past, I don't know, seven, eight years that she rents, she's been, is being sold. And she's going to have to, you know, she's going to have to find another place to live or pay higher rent. And the people that own the house now have raised her rent like four times.
And I said, why don't you buy a house? And she said, well, I'm on a list to buy a house. I said, what does that mean? And then she went into this, you know, all of these programs that she fell, you know, signed up four years ago, but has never followed up on.
But she had to do something about other people having all of this. Have you ever met anybody like that? Have you, you know, so she asked me, she goes, what would you do if you were in my position? And I said, you know, I got a podcast.
And I said, I did a whole podcast one time about a guy named Baker Miley. She said, who's he? And I told her. And I said, he had a philosophy in life that is kind of become my philosophy in life.
And if I were going to advise you of anything, I would advise you to do what Baker Miley taught me how to do many, many, many, many years ago. And she goes, what's that? I said, let the rough edges drag. They'll soon wear smooth.
And she looked at me. She's like, what? I said, let the rough edges drag. They'll soon wear smooth.
None of this is no matter. I said, none of this has anything to do with you. Anyway, you're just all upset and worried about other people. I said, worry about you.
And you know, as far as your housing situation is concerned, you'll figure it out. If you take all this energy that you're shooting here, here, here, here, here, and you redirect it to yourself and how you're going to figure this whole thing out, I said, why don't you go to that, whoever you applied for help on buying a house? I said, go look that up again. She goes, well, I got the information somewhere.
I said, good. But all your energy into that. I said, that's what that's my advice to you. Simply just stop worrying about so much stuff.
I've got another friend who's been my friend for many, many, many years. And she is doing the same thing, but she's doing the same thing to herself. And she tells me today, oh, I made a list of things I've got to get done by next week. I said, really?
She was, yeah, there's 42 things on it. I said, oh, she was, yeah, I said, man, I never make a list with more than three things on it. And she goes, well, I have to get all of this stuff done. I said, when do you have to have it done by?
She goes Friday. I said, oh, this is Tuesday. She said, yeah. I said, how are you going to do that?
She goes, I don't know. I said, why don't you go through the list? Why don't you sit down and go through the list and find all the stuff that's not important and put a check mark by the non-important stuff that you don't have to absolutely get done by Friday. She goes, well, it all needs to be done.
I said, no, there's no way that you have to do 42 things by Friday. It just, it doesn't exist in the world. And I said, what happens if you don't do them? I said, what is the worst that can happen?
What happens if you don't do any of the 42 things? She goes, well, I'm going to be mad. I said, and then what's going to happen? Well, I'm going to feel like a failure.
Why? Because I didn't get my 42 things done? She goes, no, because I'm just, you know, I'm getting older and I'm not getting things done the way I used to. I said, neither am I.
But I said, you know what I do? She goes, what? I said, I'll let the rough edges drag. Same thing I told this other way today.
Okay, well, that's how I was going to help me with my 42 things. I said, it's not. I said, you're not going to get those 42 things done. It isn't going to happen.
You're just going to frustrate yourself. And then you're going to wind up. If you let it bother you enough, you will have a thrombo. I said, you know what?
You're really good at it. What? I said, you're really good at getting shit done. It needs to get done.
And if it's real important, you just go full out on it. And I said, and I gave her an example of something that happened during the other day. Where it was a stupid mistake that somebody else made that affected her, but she had to fix and all these people were saying, well, we can't fix it. And she said, bull kaboo dee, and she just got run.
I want to talk to your boss. I want to talk to his boss. Anyway, she got the whole thing fixed. I got a matter of 35 minutes.
She got the whole thing fixed because she went all out on it. I said, you have that ability. I said, stop making 42 list things. I said, just concentrate on the important things.
And then concentrate on relaxing and having fun. And start concentrating on things that really make your heart sing. And she said, yeah, that kind of makes sense. I said, yeah, it does.
When we go through life, we have to look for things to be grateful for. Because that's what the public has to tell about. Yeah, but I mean, that's what life's all about. It's being grateful.
If you are grateful for something cool that happened, then life is good. How should I say this nicely? That kind of crazy lady that I met earlier? She was crazy, but you know what?
I'm grateful I met her. It was an experience. It really was. And I think I helped her.
And if I did help her, I'm grateful for that. I'm just going to go back to Baker Miley. I need to have this. I need to have a t-shirt made and give him credit on it.
Let the roof edges dry. They'll soon wear a smooth. We'll see you tomorrow.
