And oftentimes, a friend or parent tells us "next time...  don't get your hopes up."   Is this actually the way to live your best life? Should your priority be to avoid disappointment?   Of course not! Disappointment is a part of our life. What disappointment means to me is that I went for it. It means that I am all-in on reaching my full potential.
