Why I'm denying "the science" | Science-based fitness is dead
from Fitness and Thinking · host Jack Mann
Jack Mann is a level-4 certified coach with four years of experience, 18-months of those in PureGym in Sheffield.I’ve put trust, time and money into two of the people I mention in this video and treated the third with a healthy dose of scepticism. I now follow none of them based on their dogma, lack of science to support their “science-based” branding, and, in two cases that I’m aware of, frankly low-life behaviour when it comes to defending their circles.Science should be used to test, refute and support facts. When it’s instead crudely used to sell programmes and (so) “buy Lamborghinis” with dodgy studies, sample sizes of 1 and flashy visuals, it’s worth at least scrutinising if not completely jettisoning.“The stretch” isn’t where two of my former heroes have fallen down, it’s just one aspect of what they’ve pushed for so long that I feel we can get into together to demonstrate why common-sense is worth more than science-based, particularly in 2025.Each week, I write a newsletter to put into words some of these thoughts I have on fitness; this week's episode was based on an idea first teased in the F&T newsletter: https://fitnessandthinking.substack.com/p/jeff-nippard-mike-israetel-and-theScience-based is dead; long-live actual science.Fitness & ThinkingForget six packs, we’re looking at six pillars to gauge fitness: F&T is interested in the physical, mental, social, spiritual, emotional and financial aspects of being.
