WHY IS MODERATION IMPORTANT?
from KeithKeller · host KeithKeller
Sherry Grant - How do you know what to talk about and why so essential to have a good moderator in such a discussion? Keith Keller - I never seem to have any trouble deciding what to talk about, because I'm a very curious person. My wife calls me "Curious Keith". I'm always asking questions, which is a good way to be. It keeps me young and interested in the world. ... but when I do sometimes struggle with shows, I go to pi.ai and I just type in something like, what are the latest trends for 2024 and I get a list of, say, 10 or 15 trends. I don't tend to just follow the trends for the sake of it, for me it's I've gotta be into it. So I'll, I'll pick one of those 10 trends and sort of massage it into a topic that's of interest to me, and then I turn it into a show. I do three Shows a week, and I do three Shows a week now and I've got them planned all the way to through to Christmas. Moderation is the key question there!! Why is it so important to have a moderator? Social audio is a live show and there's a slight danger that you're going to get someone that's a little bit of a bully. Sometimes people come in the show and they don't particularly, and that don't particularly have anything to add to the topic. They just have something they want to say. These people are very difficult to manage, and it's the job of the moderator, the host, to make that person calm down. Now that is a very difficult job, but you owe it to the people listening to calm them down if they go on a bit of a rant, and you've been on these shows where someone goes off, and I've had to sort of calm them down. I have a I have a gadget that has little sounds and what that what those sounds do, this is a little hack. What these sounds do is it just gives me permission to say, Hang on, hang on, mate. I think you went out of I think you've gone off the rails there. Can we just, can we just consider that this is not what the show's about. And can I calm you down a bit and and I'll give them a chance. If they don't, then I mute them, or I might kick them out of the room or, and I owe it to the rest of the group for that, even though it's not necessarily a fair thing for them. There might be 20 other people listening, going, Keith, can you get rid of him? So moderation is the most important skill when you're doing social audio.
