Why is Righteous Suffering Good? - May 5 2024

Series: Living Hope in a World of Suffering Scripture: 1 Peter 3:13-22 Speaker: Pastor David Hallett Sunday we continued our series on the book of 1 Peter. The next section is the book is quite long. It runs from 3:13 all the way to the end of chapter 4. The topic that Peter deals with is righteous suffering. Despite his encouragements in the previous section on how to live in the world as a Christian citizen, a Christian worker, a Christian wife, or a Christian husband, there will be times when Christians will suffer specifically because they are Christians. Not only does Peter tell us this will happen, he reminds us that righteous suffering as a Christian is actually a good thing. Initially that might sound very strange, but throughout this section of the letter Peter will explain why this is so. Today in 3:13-22, he will focus on us honouring Christ as holy in our hearts. If we are willing to do that, we will begin to see the difference it can make in our lives and in our testimony before others. He also points out again that suffering was the pathway for Jesus, but also that that pathway ended in victory and eternal glory. When we set apart Christ in our hearts and live to please Him, that glorious victory will be ours too.
