Why is this harder than I thought? | Rest Ep. 172

from The Daily Disturbance · host Anthony Pangilinan

Because getting more done is the mindset, and rest is a hindrance to doing just that! To change the mindset we need to change the input. And let this day help you do just that! “Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” ― John Lubbock

Why is resting harder than I thought? This is the daily disturbance podcast with Anthony from 89. Mindset, because it's your mindset. Why rest when there is so much work to do?

And don't we get our worth often by how much we get things done? Let's be honest, the human doing mentality, not the human being mindset. You know the exercise of rating performances in various areas of your life. Let's say Rachel's self as an athlete, Rachel's self as a worker, Rachel's self from one to 10, as a friend, Rachel's self as a leader, as a communicator from one to 10, one being the lowest, then being the highest.

And then you're asked to rate yourself in value as a human being. And if you've done this exercise before, you've come to realize that while you may have different ratings for your performances, you're rating as a human being should never change. Because your being remains the same. It is your doing that goes up and down.

Have you embraced that? That regardless of your doing, seven, eight, six, nine, occasionally 10 down to five, your being remains a 10. I love the book title. Don't just do something.

Sit there. John Lubbock rest is not idleness and to lie sometimes on the grass on the trees on a summer day, listening to the murmur of the water or watching the clouds float across the sky is by no means a waste of time. The idea of maximizing results as our overarching goal affects our very own faith. Come on.

Alumna tinto. Antawa Pujan performance driven Christianity in the purpose driven performance driven. Oh my gosh, PDCs post days that check is to right now, but hard to pay in the future. But seriously, the struggle is real.

If you look again at scripture, the merry way of life, the struggle to live the merry way of life. Remember, Mary was listening to Jesus, to his words, having a conversation, the merry way of life in what a Martha world today, the Martha is, you know, worried about what to what to prepare for the guests, what to cook, what will the guests drink, what will he appreciate and getting upset at the one who is actually in relationship with the guest, the merry way of life in the Martha world in Luke 10. The struggle is real. When we level up, when we are supposed to ease up, warming up when it's time to cool down.

See, things get pretty messy. Timing is everything. Wrong work plus wrong time equals disaster. Timing is everything wrong work plus right time in the right time, waste, waste of effort and time.

Right work plus wrong time equals mediocrity. Right? Did it quite end up as you had intended to. But right work plus right time equals impact.

One more time, wrong work, wrong time, disaster, wrong work, right time, waste, right work, wrong time, mediocrity, right work, right time, impact. Now change the word work with lover. Curtis Tyrone Jones, just because you take breaks doesn't mean you're broken. And may I add, just because you're broken, it doesn't mean you are no longer a value or a joy to others.

I can say in my case, I feel most alive and fulfilled when I can do something, anything to help ease the pain or to provide the need of another, especially my family. You better believe it. And I quote your greatest joy when it's meant to meet someone else's deepest need. And you'll miss it if you're too engaged in the fast lane.

Come to me. All you are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart. And you will find here we go again rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is like Matthew 11, 28 to 30. It's not do this and do that or stop this and begin that it's come just come as you are and receive the peace that surpasses all understanding which precisely is your rest.
