What is Low Sunday? Does "Low" point to some deep spiritual significance? Sadly, it doesn't. Initial research uncovers an Episcopal title describing the lower attendance that follows the highly attended Easter Sunday gathering. (Quite underwhelming isn't it?) Yet, all is not lost!In peeling back the layers "Low Sunday" does in a way, have a rich history. Christians have been celebrating the Sunday after Easter in a number of diverse ways for hundreds of years. Celebrations with titles like "Divine Mercy Sunday", "Bright Sunday", "New Sunday", which is a shortened version of "Renewal Sunday", and even a unique "Thomas Sunday" are discovered.Eventually, over the past few decades, the evangelical practice is reached, highlighting Christ's Great Commission, that preceded His ascension to heaven. On April 16th, we'll attempt to uncover the thread that joins these traditions together; honouring the past while pointing to the future.
