Ideas from Everywhere Voices From Nowhere since 2011. Hi, this is Nick, and welcome to Nowhere, California Presents, another why not? This time we're going to be covering my birthday choice, 1991's Hook. If you have not seen this movie yet, we are about to...
Now, you know what, fuck this. If you haven't seen this movie yet, this is one of the greatest films ever made. What the fuck is wrong with you? I'm sure Josh would make this sound all nice and neat with his disclaimer, wouldn't you, Josh?
No, this is a fucking great movie. If you haven't seen it, uh, for getting tongue-punch of part box. There you go. That's a fancy word for link-a-butt, you dumbasses.
You're out there and watch this fucking movie if you haven't already seen it. And if we're scrolling it for you, just don't fucking wrong with you. What were your parents in the way they raised you? Wouldn't you agree, Phil?
Yeah, yeah, you're fucking cable watch this fucking movie, you fucking idiots! Well, I couldn't put it any better. So, on that note, here's no where California presents. Why not, look?
So, that was the disclaimer, and this is why not, this is Josh? This is Nick. Fuck! Why am I the last one introduced myself?
I'm so excited we got Phil back on that thing so much. We'll do that on the next episode with him because the next episode recording is more his pallet. Fair enough, fair enough, but I'm like, guys, guys, it's not like I was out of town. I've only been gone for what, three episodes?
Yeah, but did you say whoever? Yes, you see who you left at the fucking helm? I said, what's wrong with him? I'm trying to trust myself with that fucking kidney.
It's like leaving a special needs classroom for two hours. Look at us. I'm sorry, I was so much telling I didn't think that, you know, me being here would, you know, make a deal with the vote. Oh, now the vote is wrong.
You know, I was going to say, to quote Harvey Kaitel from Pulp Fiction, all right, let's not start sucking each other's dicks just yet. But also, too, the main reason that you're going to end it, and I think Phil will agree with this, since this will be coming out, I believe, after the 24th. Happy birthday to you, Sir. Thank you.
Thank you very much. AARP card is in the mail. It is. I turned the big 4-0 on the 24th, and it was my request that we finished off our remembrance, our year-long remembrance of the absolutely amazing Robin Williams.
With my favorite film of his, which is Hook. I think Phil shares my sentiment when this is his favorite as well. I'm right there with you, as I was watching last night to do the refresher and everything. And as we get through the discussion, you'll understand where I'm coming from.
This is like a quintessential Ron Long film in the perfect way to wrap up our remembrance. Yeah, this movie hit me on so many levels, and you know, you'll find out when we get our trivia section a little bit later, some of the different people that were considered for the role of Peter Pan. Nobody could have done this. No, any better than Robin Williams did.
And it is such an important movie, and it's such an important life lesson as well, which you'll hear us discussing in a little bit. But I'm glad we got everybody back on board for this. Yes. I've lost over the block, we miss still.
Well, yeah, I know you're only going for a few episodes, sir, but you're a huge part of the heart and soul of this team, and I'm so glad to have you back in the Commander's Chair over there, brother. Thank you so much. I appreciate being back. I'm joined being back.
So, to just jump right into this, let's go into the usual budgetary and cast off. Yeah, let's talk. We are talking about the movie, Hook, 1991, directed by Steven Spielberg. I heard that before.
Oh, yeah, yeah. Real up and comer. Yeah, he's done a couple of movies. I hear he's gonna have a pretty big career.
Yeah. The screenplay for this was... That was a joke. Well, we knew it was Hokey when we started.
So, James V. Hart and Nick Castle, they did the screen story, and the screenplay was written by James V. Hart and Malia Scott-Mammo. I believe it's what it is.
But it's as Jim V. Hart. The budget was 70 million, and it grossed 119,654,900 dollars. So, I'd say that the movie was a decent hit.
Yes, it was. I'm actually shocked at numbers as low as it is. Well, you gotta think back in 1991, though, those are pretty impressive numbers in 1991. You're very low.
We're in the budget. We're sitting in that new era of, oh my god, if it doesn't make this amount on the opening weekend, it must die. Well, yeah, it was only 70 million. We're in a world where we're spending like 170 million.
Yeah, for a middle of the road kind of film. Yeah, exactly. So far this weekend I've read that SARS is actually gonna be out of the top three. It's gonna be out of the top five to the top three.
Yeah, I mean, okay. I get it, and it's still gonna be a shit ton of money that'll make, you know, somewhere or so. I mean, it makes sense. It does.
It makes sense. I guess maybe you're right. In this day and age, it is a little shocking to hear, you know, oh, that's all it made. That's one money.
That's fucking good money. All right, we'll move on. That's great. Cast.
And it's really funny. I really love looking at this cast list because they're not a single person here. I don't know. Dustin Hoffman, Captain Hook.
I hate, I hate, I hate, I hate, Peter Pan. Robin Williams, Peter Banning. What's your happy talk, Ken? Julia Roberts, Tinker Bell.
Everybody knows. Kevin Oks got him and you've got a file. Bob Hoskins, it's me. He's not taking it out.
He's not finished it. Maggie Smith, Granny Wendy. Oh children. Except one.
Caroline Goodall, Mora. Mora. Mora. Mora.
Mora. Mora. Mora. Mora.
Mora. Mora. Mora manning. We have a few special twos with our children.
We're gotta ones that want Oscar ware. Uh, Charlie Charisma. Oh Jack. Jackie Banner.
They're never letting me jump on my own bed. Amber Scott. Maggie Banning. Recording Coolup.
Bill Collins is Inspector Good, Arthur Malick is poutes. Zia Robinson has pockets. Jensen Fisher's ace, Donna type Es actioner is Rufio. Yeah, it's the butt those are the ones that are in the top top list.
There's also the rest of the lost voice Colorful cast of kids James my oh don't ask that's the catcher's name is don't ask Tom I think that's probably the this big yeah kid with like the plaid laser. Yeah Oh, and I see him here. He's got a bit of a goatee, but he really hasn't changed that much Yeah, Tom is too act too small Alex Zuckerman latch boy On our monster owner known app one of my favorite ones. I'm trying to get down to oh here We go Gwyneth Palsrell is young Lindy.
Yes. Yeah. Yeah, so it's our first novel Glenn Close is gutless Oh, I love this two-fless cripple Kim rum billard and we got some things down here I love this one prostitutes, you know, you know, yeah, you always forget that you know Because this is a big part of my childhood. I always forgot that there were prostitutes in this movie I've had a prostitute was a big part of my childhood.
No, no no, that's also my childhood Not in the movie hook, but there's just like a Richard fire. No, but there's there's countless other ones here as you can see But it's a real big cast a whole lot more. Yeah, a lot of us have seen stellar I didn't really expect too much to do less from Spielberg. Yeah in this scale of a movie telling this type of story Okay, I'm not like we're talking about earlier that there has been incarnations of the pure pants story often on and most recently we had Pan and we're pan and it was panned it was panned but yeah, I was Yeah, I mean you tell by the preemies of ours.
It's like wow, this is not gonna be good room are her i'll have to watch that i'm not really sure exactly what missteps were taken a lot of it just too much liberty in the back story uh... it's one of the things where somebody wanted to tell the back story of peter pan on i think most of us feel like the back story between peter pan and captain hook has always been the captain hook and we never know when it started or when it ended you know like when it's going to end but that's you know it's it's just an eternal battle that they're always going to be locked in and uh... there's no need for a presort because they just been at it for a bit this story gave us it's a given so prequel it gives us the that along yes i think it'll be a sort of the re-emergence of peter pan and and now peter pan's family and the adventures that they will have it i like that you know that there's a line in the film uh... death is the only true great adventure and peter pan sing is live you know to live now that would that would be a great adventure yes that's a very well and that will be coming to you with this movie is uh...
peter panning as we know that i think that it is a lot of you know he's a lawyer and uh... we get a great line once the family's actually get together when they uh... when he talks about how he comes in and he does these mergers and stuff between companies and then that is close about a lot of money says he took you well there's so many of the background there's just so many mama really key moments in their office again composed by the great john williams the score yes or there's so good he has such a way of bringing the story out without any words being said well i guess it's without any dialogue he has a way of taking the soundtrack and making it speak to you yes yes yes and so you know he's been doing it for uh... steven spielberg since joss and might as well continue right on doing it all it's it's it's it's it's great stuff uh...
uh... i'm not uh... skipping and everything is like a separate cover uh... as much as we can but i really like the little uh...
touches you know that those little miners that is like when they go to close the door and i'm sorry when the door is are when the window is opening and the kids are up to be abducted yes you see the hook it's the right thing i mean just a little bit very uh... i'm gonna take a second there and give a a little not to uh... a guy that i've i've done uh... we do pirate reenactment stuff all the time with a group of friends of ours were part of the alliance of the double cross- is uh...
you know the vip section with the swords and things like that so you actually got a chance to hold them in there it's magical it's really magical in the system but i completely agree with you the little touches are what really solid and that's a thing you think of hook i mean you think that there be too much emphasis on a hook but that thing is so crafted such a beautiful thing but you see it you know even in like certain sequences when it's like the somewhere there in class has the chalk and then now careful the position is to click it off click it off and put the hook back on is like literally it's his right hand yet left hand it was actually his left hand because he is not right that they did that they did that for the actor but it's just the position that they do the whole almost like how it's almost a little real they're taking towards him to put it back on it well that makes a who is the james hook without hook is just james right now one of the uh... greatest incarnations live action incarnations of hook i've ever seen uh... you know complete with that you know the black wig stash yes that's the the imagery is just uh... i think a lot of that me uh...
the cray towards that with the costuming the imagery director and everybody around it a lot of that falls into dust and coffins like this you can look at what was the common is done he throws himself freaking head first all i think that's the thing i heard uh... i think it's one of the troy of it's that he he was actually on set on the set uh... i think two months prior to in even shooting anything just to get immersed in the right and i was in interviews with where he talks about his role to see and how emotionally about the time to that we're talking about even like seen women that don't think they're beautiful not and then he's he puts himself in that place and some of you see it for miss mr. goryans wonder or him originally he was supposed to be up for the role of charlie in the charlie factory as will be one of course to burn me to burn when john yep so he was so like to get back from that role he took everything he wanted to do with really want to bring it to the role of me and that's like i said a lot of it has to do with how just this is such a pro does not have any of those people who know he's made right now i got into this character that really loves me the first week of his okay and the rest of the system suck and i was hoping but that doesn't happen makes all you know what's up for the city for the sequels yeah well you know with with hook dust and hoffman uh...
embodies world and i've always wanted to play on stage uh... hook is my you know that that's a couple of me uh... i would love to play captain hook on stage as the agents because hook is such a wonderful villain and can be over the top and super flamboyant it really takes the skill of somebody like dust and hoffman to also make him dangerous and you get that sense you know uh... as you hear the banter between he and peter and uh...
you know as you see kind of things that he does and of course there's moments within the movies which will discuss that uh... did you really see the the true darkside nature you know the dark side of uh... of captain hook come out but to get back to the little things you're talking about there's moments where whenever they're showing peter something he stands with his feet slightly apart as is this is the only thing that is just the way that you see peter panda picked it all of his paintings and pictures of the four-banding it's kind of just i've always said i've always i've always had my hands like this and it's you know there's another character there's another mithological character who who does that uh... superman so i think it's indicative of those who as as tinker bell said uh...
the three and so it's it's it's a little touch is it's a little touch is but for me it's the entire story of peter pan it just hanging on to your childhood in your youth is so important to something not to lose when you become an adult because then the wonder in the magic of the world disappears and that's like how we're talking about to you earlier that's why ron lincoln says so perfectly because you know it's not just his right here in everything in life is that a spark of a city here he sees the day uh... i remember getting into discussion years ago of somebody going on i don't really care for robin williams you know it's like he's too childish and i said what's wrong with that and i understand what's wrong with that you know what comedy you know kids laugh at everything and so i'm not happy that why not happen to that primal feeling of being a kid being up the lap everything everything doesn't have to be a smart joke it can just be you know it's a bit oh yeah it's like him showing up on set naked you know for something and people are going holy shit that's not what it would do and it's it's just a wonderful thing i'm not encouraging your children or negative or do you run around and reclaim your childhood well step-by-step right here so i'm up just a little however i think this is a great movie that you can sit down with your children as well absolutely and enjoy seeing the magic and what i think it's one of the things that you took a snapshot of a family sitting down watch this movie together you could see that same wonderment in the eyes of both the parents and the children as they watch on film so that's the thing too like last night was watching it and you like certain parts are about to come up i was just letting them at that kind of thumbs from my iPad but watching and everything but when certain key scenes are popping up i was like it's a matter of time i sat there and i just sat there and i'm just waiting for this thing to happen and go through it i have my good artists towards it because with it being wrong and everything just loving every moment of it and then kind of just backing down from it and then going back to watch it normally yeah this is easily one of my favorite films it's ever been made and it's just because it's you know i've discussed in i've discussed in one of our other recordings where there's certain movies that you can put them on i walk in at any moment and and see it it doesn't matter if it's five minutes from the movie or five minutes into the movie i will stop and watch hook straight through from wherever i'm at uh... it's just such a wonderful film to me and so i was really really honored and pleased that we're going to talk about this today so um... i guess one thing i can touch on about the film the diversity um...
between the beginning uh... and uh... you know how it transitions to this fantasy so you start off with Peter Manning regular guy you don't really get the sense that this is a Peter Pan yeah well he's the part of the typical absentee guy not really like a constant absentee guy he's busy with work so he sends one of his peons out to record the baseball game so you can get there but life is actually passing him by is what's going on there and you get uh... you know they go take a flight to grandma Wendy's and then when the that that's the correct there we definitely have to put on our own one the panam the flight the flight yeah you're banny is afraid of flying yes well before we do too far and i want you to think about the metaphorical aspect of him being an absentee father uh...
or just being a dad who's so consumed with anything else here's a man who's lost his childhood his lost touch with himself being being a child or being child or child and as a result he's missing the the wonderment in the joint of his children's being children as well so it's it's just this kind of don't lose it in yourself you can lose everywhere else to it's a great morning that's a great great morning about about don't let life passion by you know it was what's that will say me in the process of trying to make a living don't forget to make a life right it's exactly that kind of that kind of that's the message i love it yeah let's let's jump to play on it you know like i was watching last night everything it was like i forgot about that but i forgot it's like you don't remember how intensely he's rapping on those seat handles like his he's wound tight he's bouncing around everything his daughter jumps over shows in the picture you're afraid you're gonna get sucked out and in the picture his son drew everybody with parachutes except for him because he had missed the game was he sad to listen he missed the same series also my word is my bond my word is my bond joke bond you know he's he's made promises to jack before yes you know and uh... you know these these are the the other if the ramifications just how the sun is kind of like you know whatever yeah he's bouncing the ball and fun and then the mask ball down scares the shit out of him scares the shit out of him yeah i love their how why would you just grow up jack yeah why don't you just grow up he's growing up he's growing up yeah i am a child yeah uh... i'm going to be such a child i'm going to be a sense of eternal uh you know eternal childhood when we meet toodles first lost boy we meet yes he is an 80 year old man he opens up he opens up the dark the toodles it's snowing yes i love the blind they do it again too and this is another thing we forget to know toodles a little bit lost lost lost lost lost he's calling on floor lost lost what is it i've got my models this is so good we discussed this in um our toy discussion yeah we did they re uh it was hooked first and then toys right yeah yeah so they re reconnected with each other in toys uh yes yes we did that's right uh yeah from finding them to making them yeah uh but yeah so we get we get our first appearance of uh of toodles you know first lost boy and just the just the magic and wonder of windy darlings house yes yes she'll get those kind of wandering through the house there's there's memories there but not clear right but i mean they're they're so carefully laid about the house you get the ship in the bottle um you know there's the the teddy bear with the glasses and the top hat you see all that for uh for john and michael you know you see all that stuff kind of sitting around oh and there's the dialogue she does the dialogue that you know the actual author jam um jam bar jam berry you know mr berry mr james our neighbor he loved our stories so much she was down in the book old damn 80 years ago yes i was not as much as such an honest touch yes uh i i hope i didn't know i was so glad because you and i have that same yeah not not to just lose justice when we know that bicentennial man is like is his but this one's a journey here yeah this is a huge thing and so but they acknowledge that it's the the writer everything the right is the world yes yes the the plausibility yes that what happened to her really happened and what happened to peter and that the tales really happened and that this man found it so fannus you know uh such a wonderful fantasy and fancies these stories so much that he had the right to not present them to the world and uh but a lot of money on yes exactly she gets some of the residual absolutely absolutely it goes to her morphinages and stuff uh that's about that that's cool as to that yes as when he grew up and everything she started to become uh flapped this towards orphanages and orphaned she did i think she could help line yes um and that's oh my god that is see from me yeah that would be the first scene in the movie where i just wet where i was like oh god when they go to the education of the when you don't know what you're talking about yes and you know people talking about being an orphan and all that stuff and he says i know if you could stay in that you'd support and the room starts standing up this whole japanese man blue kitty and all these people yeah everybody does and he's like oh that's what we have to do we're all lost we're all lost we're all lost we're all great along with his delivery along with those touches along with all that it's that i'm like this is the spiel steven spielberg style that i really like really come below you know in any other hands direct or wise and put it off that tell you what it would have been i don't know if it necessarily would have felt flat but i don't think it would have been as i don't think it would have been the grand painting that it is you know and and for me this was i don't know i just it was so beautiful yeah such a beautiful you know from start to finish and it is you're absolutely right now i keep saying it and it's gonna sound repetitive but no it's just a little yeah the little touches to go with the grand picture and make it worthwhile you see how we're slowly building this yeah and now as this happens we get to the part where the children you get a little bit of this whimsy you get the john william store going something's coming to get the kids whoa like that you know and you know what's happening stuff like that you're we're getting out of reality now we're getting out of reality and someone's taking the kids okay yeah that's really that's scary but what's in there we got the you got the note we get the work along the whole house during the entire abduction though to get the build-up and build up and then you have two holes here in the dog barking and so it's going going along with the marking by the going hook hook yeah and then boom the windows fly open the green lights there realize hairs blown back into the gizmo talking about it's just it's so well executed and you know the devastation you know windy fades or you know her you know house has been broken into and then you know already the parents are devastated well it's not even that the house is working into the first thing that windy says is the children yeah well she's at the hospital you know the dedication and she almost collapses yeah yeah and yeah exactly she kind of she falls back she's like you're okay she's like yeah i'm just you know i'm ready to go home so they do they head home and that's when you see the broken window and then they go in and i keep saying more but it's not it's the uh uh liza liza she's there and she's like you know it's the children there was something and they run upstairs and the beds are empty and you know the windows are open and they're just i panic and then the door closes and there's windy standing there and there's the dagger mmm stuck into the door with the note from James James yeah yeah you know we would formally request your presence you know if you want to see your children kind of again and and uh you know you realize that there's something more to what's going on you know then just what um you know what the whole reason is not in what eglinations uh Peter has been really no keep in mind prior to this prior to them leaving for the hospital oh yeah the big deal that Peter banning was putting together is falling apart and he lashes out at the kids and screams and yells at them and you know uh probably where his wife says you know we're here we're here in the home that you know that you grew up in and all this and you're missing it you're missing everything you're missing all of this and she takes his phone and throws it out the window and nanobaries it and uh you know so there's all of this tension that's created in the real world and it all just kind of disappears when the children are gone and that's where we start to see the bridging the two worlds yes there's little spinklings and indications you know with two and all that stuff but now we're starting to see now we're getting this real we're getting two worlds we're got we got windy windy sits down here with uh Peter come sit and start talking and talking with her she goes what do you remember you know he goes i don't remember the orphanage and stuff like that she goes what do you remember before that and he just goes there's nothing before that because that's part of that Neverland magic yeah you know uh like the bail of Neverland yeah exactly and then of course he's you know he's doing like you said he does the standing up thing he's right next to the window and she goes you're him she goes the stories ah true yeah uh Maggie Smith was sorry her execution was just excellent so the Force away can still promote yeah yeah why not well why not George well I'm sorry yeah George Lucas is not involved in Force away again so yeah yeah uh but Spielberg's always been right around there um they have dinners together exactly exactly but uh you know Peter of course doesn't take her seriously seriously so he's drinking he's having some scotch Marla's taking a sedative she's she's out you know they're you know they've they've called in the uh the police the genesis division yes the genesis division yes the inspector that comes down this field call of course well let's hope so i've forgotten how to fly here well one does but you know there's that whole video they said they said it to uh to town it like maybe it was a hoax maybe it was some kind of you know given the family he even says given the family's history yeah it's that fan of the lazy all the stories so they don't tell you know they tell you that aspect of it and it's not until you know Peter starts drinking that uh and he falls asleep in uh his daughter's uh tent Maggie right we fall asleep in Maggie's old tent and all that stuff and then uh we have our big reveal and uh that's it comes on the wings of Tinkerbell yes by uh Delaney's which i remember distinctly back then everybody was questioning whether or not she was the proper choice because of her too she was coming off the uh the pretty woman saying it was still very very early in her career but it was she did such a great job she did she did the her smile as much as people like all her horse face and all that stuff and just her laugh was perfect for that role oh yeah i i think i honestly think this is one of the best cast films again in the vein of you know our other one bird cage that we taught oh yeah it's such a really good sample she did such a wonderful job and you know there's that whole like firefly from hell yeah oh i love you know when he's when he's drinking and he tries to rationalize and he's like that's got you're just a you're a complex for the hallucination having something to do with my mother and i don't know why that wings but you're very lucky legs and you're very nice tiny person and what am i saying i don't know about it was i'm an orphan and i never taken drugs because i miss the sixies i was in the comfort i had a feeling that was probably a little bit pure robin right there was that that was up that was a pure robin way of that was yes it was it was very much in the vein of what we've seen him do off the cuff every you know every performance that he gives but you got those incredible slap sticky uh prat balls yeah that tinker bell goes to me she beats the shit yeah she beats the shit out of here right this is her former this is her former friend you know and it is you peter only one person's ever had that smell yeah what smell is that the smell of you know somebody who's ridden the wind who you know who's uh or has kissed the wind or something like that degree i'm sure insert sound click right here we'll fix it for me no someone who's ridden back the wind peter the smell of a hundred fun summers of sleeping and free his adventures with inhans and pirates oh remember peter there we go oh yeah there we go i'm looking at our magic man over there okay i'm on audible double fingers crossed there you know but uh it's a well good it's a good phrase right and she you know just kind of paints the magic of neverland right then in there and uh you know he still doesn't believe her but he he gets you know the rug literally yanked off from underneath um and tied up in the parachute parachute yes tied up in the parachute tied up in the parachute he didn't have his parachute because of jack but uh he was saved or carried to neverland in the same parachute that maggie had a hug from his hug from his daughter so she carries him off second you know he's like you know where we go we'll neverland of course i can start right so i'm learning thanks oh what a terrible nightmare yeah mwaira and he takes he looks out of her gonna drink again yeah he thinks he's hung over right now we're gonna enter neverland first thing he sees is a you know clock and then he opens it up and then oh my god how colorful is neverland yeah we were talking about the small things and now it's overload now it's grand right it's landed on this and now we've got this and who the hell here who who who doesn't want to play a pirate exactly you know and we're going to learn very quickly a lot of people exactly exactly uh you know we we get now where he's suddenly this world he's there in his tuxedo and his fancy shoes you know all that stuff don't forget yes he has a gun he's got to go on him yeah he's aware about the hook that's right and so tinker about quickly disguises him up you know you wear the hat you know put the iPad to where you are let your hair hang on the hang live for like lifeless yeah yeah yeah now live in drool yeah argh argh you do yeah ah yeah so he makes his way around because the hook has just been polished and yes he delivered me i gotta do this other John Williamson hook hook hook there's a hook no no no no no no no no I love the hook thing yes it is great uh it is it is something where they they march that hook forward yeah we get our introduction of another retro character in me oh yes which Bob Hoskins you know another one going way too soon I loves me oh yeah I loves me and that I'll say it again I spoke to our director friend Ed, Hebrew Lin at one point, when he was discussing doing it on stage, I said there's only two characters that I would ever consider playing, and that would be Hook, of course, not the Hook, and if I couldn't, I would want to be see me. Because they complement each other so well.
They have to work off each other and that's nothing. Early brilliance. Yes. I know that when you have more or true than the chemistry between Hoffman and Hoskins.
It's just- It shows the two consonant pros that Bob Hoskins and doesn't happen constantly. Right. Yeah. This is anybody who's a fan of Robin Williams.
This is the first thing. The first bit of dialogue that we get from Bob Hoskins, Good sport. Good, no! But that's how we are introduced to me.
That's right. That was great. I called back to Good Morning Vietnam. I love it, you know.
Let's give him a hand because he's only got one. Yes. Just a- Where did he call him? The Steely- The Steely- Oh, was it?
I'm Steely- No, no. No, it's like the Steely- Barracuda or something. Yeah, yeah. The Steely- The Steely- Barracuda or whatever.
It's not the same thing. He's a giant steely hook and then he comes in and he's wondering the crowd. Yeah. We don't.
It's not a reveal. All we see is this hook. Yeah. And he's got the hook in place and there's an hand.
And there's a little spark. Yeah, it's in the dark room and it introduces the whole hook. Yeah, hook, hook. There's the hook and everybody's doing that.
We don't get this. We just see him. See the back of him just fan in the crowd. You see the red coat and the ruffled towel.
Yeah, ruffled trimmed. Sure. It was the same thing that they showed us in the teaser trailers and stuff like that. They were always very clever to not show us.
That's why I was checking in last night too. Was the trailers because a lot of the audio cues I usually take for these come from the trailers. This is a problem. No.
Because the trailers were very bare bones. They were trailer should be. So it revealed too much. Got a college?
I mean, Justice. That's the term reader. No. No.
No. No. Yes. Don't show your hand.
It's like boy, they really did it. No. No. No.
I didn't even show it. It's so cool. Love it. You know, so cool.
We've got Peter who's on board now. Right? He's on a hook ship. And there he's discussing when he says and he runs on the list of his accomplishments.
Who said that, you know, who did this and who did that? And you know, hook hook hook. And who doubted me? Who said I couldn't do it?
Everybody gets quiet. And he's like, it was you. And he points right up here. Oh, over to the...
And he goes, where's the cop it's name? Yo. That's my yo. Oh, not you.
Not you. Yo. You bet against me when you pan back here at Tinisha. Tell your captain the truth.
I'll say it. I did. Yes, you made a boo. I did.
I did it. Boo boo box. No, I'm so boo. No.
Yeah. And we learned it's not him that he's looking at another pirate. That's right. No, I'm not listening though.
Happy to find out that it is— Play by Glenn Close. Yes, and one over the room. Don't look and beer to makeup looks just like a dude. Could not tell that that— I did know either.
As a matter of fact, up until I found out that it was Glenn Close, I thought that I had seen that guy in another movie somewhere else? I was saying they did a damn fine job. They didn't do the fiddle attractions. Do you want to see a big mind throw?
Christopher Walken just played Captain Hook in the interview room. Right. Right and Christopher Walken worked with Glenn Close got less in Sarah Plainon Dahl. Right.
Wow. We got full circle. Wouldn't be here if we merged these two. Because I'm going, hey, I slept with you didn't I?
That's a whole other thing to play around with. I'm going to soon to know where California is. Is it a pirate or pirate porn? No, right.
Stop it, Josh. I just don't know where the wheel is turning the fire off. But that whole boob box gets off. That gets me the frickin' shills when I think about it.
Well, I think about it. The whole thing is like, it's okay. You can tell your captain. You can tell your captain.
Did you tell me? He's like, oh, she is. That's okay. The boob box right here.
No, no, no, the boob box! And the boob box is a treasure chest with a little hatch on it in which they drop scorpions into the box after they've locked said person inside. Oh, man! That seems like a really good pirate torture after that noise.
It's the children reveal. The children are revealed in the net. The net hanging above the deck of the ship. And it then turns that reveals.
Peter goes, no, my kids, but I can't. And this is where everything starts to hit the pot. There he goes, woah, woah, wait a minute. Peter, pan, pan, pan.
Panning. Oh, what about his scar? He took a look at him, he's a minute scar. He goes, yep, right there.
That's my appendix. He's bleeding, flipping, flying, Peter, panning. If I'm using, I'll be a, you know, like a starving codfish or something. I got his medical records and stuff like that.
It's just really funny. It's like, how the hell did they come across that stuff? Even Hook goes, what's happened to you, Peter? You're not even a shadow, you're not even a shadow, you're a former.
And it's just funny because of the whole fight between Peter and the shadow. But that's when Tinkerbell kind of steps in. And he's like, just forget it, kill them all. If I can't have my war, then kill all of them.
Yeah. That's when Tinkerbell does. I know you want your war. I know you want your war.
He steps in and blocks his hook and says to him, you want your war. You don't want to end your legacy with Peter Pan with something I said, but I just kill him. She says, give me five days to, to what minute shape? I mean, you can have your war.
He says, three, you know, you have three days or whatever. She goes two days. They go back and forth and she, you know, they shake on it. And he says, but let me wrong you this miss battle.
If he doesn't show, no, I'm not stopping. We'll bring you back where Austin. I love that one great line, great line. So of course, you know, there's a moment where he says, if he can get his children, I'll let him leave.
And that's prior to all of this. Oh, that's right. He goes, just fly up that, touch the hands and I'll give him to him. Just reach out and touch their out, stretch hands and I'll let you go.
You know, that sort of thing. You can't do it. He's so afraid of heights. Just do it.
You know, Jack and he's too totally frozen. Yeah. And so that's when he's like, you know, forget it, kill him. If it was in an out of shape too, where it's just yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. No happy thought, no anything like that. He gets struck and Peter walks backwards off the plank into the water rescued by the very, very sick, well, no mates.
Oh, no they're nades. Who then hoist him up to the tree top levels and stuff where the lost boys are, and we get our introduction of everybody. Of everybody. Including who has taken Peter's place in the stead of Peter's absence, which is ruffy, oh!
Ruffy, oh. Ruffy, oh! Ruffy, oh! Ruffy, oh!
And it's, you get to see how the lost boys live in their tree with the, you know, there's the basketball hoop. It's skate park. Yeah, skate park. I love the part where they totally ambushed him.
Yes, hitting them with the bows and arrows with those up. Sticky, yeah. Sticky, oh, right in the jump. Oh, no, I'm in the shot shot.
That part was great. Yeah. I'm in the moment there. You know, so we get the introduction of the two of them and then Rufio comes flying into the sequence and there's, he's got Pan sword.
And, you know, you just, you get this wonderful, you know, if any of you, you know, any of you think this droola here is the Pan. Cross the line. He says, you know, but it's basically his cousin's work. Yes, he's got AP to Pan.
Cross the line. Everybody cross the line and set that little kit. He's back and forth a couple of times and then finally get a little one. What was his name again?
Do you remember? Tiny. Two tiny. Two tiny.
He stops and he grabs Peter and has a meal down. And he starts squishing. He takes off his glass, folds him up in his pocket, starts squishing around his face. Very delicate music being played.
This is the other one where I lose it. Oh, God, yeah. Squishing his face around and then, yeah, looking at him and then finally stretches it up into a smile and goes, oh, there you are Peter. And then, and all the lost boys come rushing across the game.
Oh, he sees. Oh, wow, wow, what happened to you? Yeah, and it's like, he promised you'd never grow up Peter. You know what?
They all see what he sees when the kid lights up and you see that. And Tink tries talking, you know, since into him. Rufio's pissed and jealous right off the bat. And, you know, he says, I need help getting my kids back and Peter's pants got kids.
You know, it's just a fun reveal of like where he was and now where he's at. Right. Yeah. So, you know, we get back to this and in the meantime we flashback over to Captain Hook and he's depressed.
He's one of my favorite sequences in the film. I know what you're talking about. He's depressed and he gets the gun and he's like, I'm not a step like I'm on the trigger. Don't try to stop me.
It's me. I'm not a game. It's it. Don't try to stop me.
This time's me. Don't try to stop me. This time's me. Don't you dare.
Try to stop me. This time's me. Try to stop me. Let's be.
Get up off your ass. Get over here. Aye. I'm coming.
I'm coming. I'm coming. You're filming at the show. There's no adventure here.
You call me snow with venture. Yep, it's the only great adventure. Can I have left?! I'm talking in the bed.
You know? We hear the tik-tok-tok-tok, you know, and you're like, what is that? And it turns out that it's the watch that Peter gave Jack to, you know, to keep him as kind of the man of the house all that. You know, this is your responsibility.
Right. The, the wrong going starts. Yeah, so yeah. To kind of put a bandaid on things.
So, anyhow, uh, Hook wakes up and goes and he's gonna, he's gonna stab the, the watch right through the heart. He's gonna kill the kid too. Yeah, he goes, no, no, no, no. And he's like, I've got an idea, you know, and he's like, there's, what is it?
I'm sat in a piffany. It's a lightning suddenly struck my brain. Yeah. And so, you know, he goes and sounds very painful.
Yeah. So he says, you make them love you. He says, I'm Captain Hook, no children love me. And he's like, now that's it.
You know, and so basically what Hook does is he pays all the attention to the kids that Peter didn't. It touched you with Maggie. Yes, Maggie doesn't follow her. Maggie's not buying it.
She sees you. She sees you. Right. He sees through it, but Jack doesn't.
Jack's the one who needs the father figure and so, you know, he teaches them the baseball day. They, Jack teaches them about baseball. And so they, they do the whole look at the pirates. They're wearing the Pittsburgh pirate here.
he's doing second you know they're doing a run home jack run home jack and no what's that mean is that no no switch around home jack home jack and so peters there and with the lost boys to the like what part of the thing you have to do is get a steal some fire and uh... to get that happy thought he's been watching the kids at the same time peters doing the montage training right now montage montage how much is it you can lose a million and so i want to glass over any of the he's trying to you try to steal something uh... hooks and he's actually a little hook uh... because uh...
captain who had the love of the money on the mama uh... club me and so i'm going to have some of the process of the time the process of doing that to steal captain hooks hook he sees jack playing game and suddenly he's like you know we're in jackey's home run and he goes you know uh... hooks and goes back to jack montage montage montage if you just might jack yeah you know so it's kind of this whole depressive sort of thing and uh... realize what it is that's what you do it's a little bit of a doing this training and do all this stuff trying to help find his happy place and launch them to the air and happy thoughts birthday as well as that one and they give you birthday and i thought that's a year of birthday uh...
he had thought about a little conversation and thought it was always a minute i have something here and he's got two little more is more that yes these are his happy thoughts all you know it's it gets back to different things and uh... there's the moment where peter is back in the old burned out tree house and if i mean so quickly yes things are things are kind of sent in his he's talking about his he remembers all the way back to being a baby and you know that didn't take a bill you know what was there you know you want to say to me from hold and and about here and then we get the flashbacks of my role and all that stuff and uh... there's with the house is it yeah i thought that you know where he keeps coming back and forth to windy and all that stuff and finally you know he's like i'm gonna give her a kiss and she was no peter no more adventures and i think it's no i mean a real girl's basically like this is i'm done i'm saying i'm gonna say with her you know and then it gets to the first his happy thought yeah he gets the first part where he's like tatty and he's talking about teddy bear and it's a teddy and this and and he goes not tatty daddy and he remembers jaguars i remember why i left neverland i have a happy time he goes on to become a father and then he goes back to that i've got these parties hovering last time i was in the back so that we got here it's just and then he takes off and into the wind he goes and turns transforms yes it's the gear on the tights and the green back on almost a neverland bale hits him again because he gets to tights uh... clock apartment and he can't remember why he's there he's enjoying the fact that he's back as Peter i like this game i like this game with playing another one you know sort of like he's like having to realize i have to remind him why well she wishes herself big and she is the biggest wish i've ever had and i saved it for you Peter and so she kisses him and and there's a there's a moment there that somebody i watched a movie with years ago was like that's really weird hearing her do that when she's kissing him she's like mmm and like she's just drowning in that kiss because it was everything she always wanted at that moment and i was a big one yes she gets it and that's when he's like he remembers myra anymore as i was i love you peter pan because i love her more i'm sorry tinking i like i can't get my kids but there's a moment that we we kind of dance over oh yeah but i it is so much who's bums for me and that's when peter he flies and comes back in yes and roofio approaches him and he hands on me like he meals everything on the pan everybody gives the acceptance that he is really a thing right and we're real kind of storms off but that was only to bring in the sort and this presents to him it's like you are well because we get we get a moment you know in the training and all stuff when they're doing the make believe dinner and and they get peter to pretend and all that stuff as well too yeah roofio throws a coconut atom and just instinctively he takes the sword whips around and cuts it in half and they're like whoa and it really freaks peter out now he's in full acceptance of everything and there's you know roofio brings in a sword and he goes you can fly you can fight and you can and he cocks his head back and crows like that oh it was so exciting and he gets them all to do it you know he's doing the colors thing you know with his fingers in front of his that's a sign language symbol for colors yeah i don't know what the significance but he's got in front of space and they're all doing it you know and you know they're all crowing and he's got the soul that was there yeah i just love that you know and love that part i mean that's when he goes to tink and she reminds him of all that stuff and then you know it's on the it's on the last day and we got about it so you're not going to get your fight and then you hear the cutting of the the mass or the upside the uh yeah the sail and there's the it falls it falls to the ground first uh-huh and then it's me holds it up it holds up it's a selider peter and he flies into that silhouette and he you know james looks like how did you ever get squeezed with those fancy types of yeah peter yeah exactly there probably is a couple cut lines from ramen there's a wonderful dialogue that goes on back and forth and the lost boy show up to to fight the battle year yes and all their wicker and all that paintballs and stuff and yeah but grabbing his heels and rolling down yeah they were a little bit creepy and special fact with that one where it's like rolling out i know that's amazing rufio you know it comes into battle and that's when we realize that the battle between pirates and in the lost boys isn't always a wilds place no and uh rufio is getting a better book for just a brief second looky looky i got a hooky and uh that's when hook runs them through yeah and peter's no you know and he runs and he grabs him and he's holding him and he says and that moment oh yeah oh god oh god oh god jones when he stands up and he says have at the you know he's have at the hook that's when baggie and jack must go dad let's go home he's just a mean old man without a mommy you know plus you there's a little bit back you get that wonderful song from her oh yeah you're like oh even the pirate i don't know what the other thing we're just like you have to listen to this dick hook yeah this is really pretty but uh you know it moves forward and that's when that's when hook says to him if you don't face me now there will be daggers bearing notes in the doors of your children's children's children's children you'll never be rid of me and that's uh that's when they but also i think it's before that before they finally decide to go home is hook says oh there's always a hook when there's a peter pan yeah that's it's right after peter pan launches his wig office and get this they're leaving before that right there there's no that's near the end and that's when hook is pissed it's like no you know what's in the bag right now so it's when they have the fight and then he launches the wig off and he has the the opportunity here you know he's like what we're going to be like the line that he says prior to that when he's like i remembered you bigger and he's all compared to a 12-year-old dude he's a huge yeah i can put a 12-year-old but you know there's there's this wonderful peter pan hook moments where you know hook is using proper form in the way he's sword fighting and he stops top slower and peter pan teases him by making the horse mering sound just you know close it back at him yeah and uh you know and they bang and you know that's not from the two of them fighting it out and yes the the wig comes flying off and you realize that he's just an old man now and that's where it's there yeah he says you killed ruffian you deserve to die and that's when she says what's you know he's a mean old man without a mommy let's go he goes he goes oh good for him Maggie yes Jack after all the world be like without a captain right yeah and there's there's that whole there's a whole moment in there where he just was like you've given you know you've taken my dignity or you know you've taken my hand or whatever at least given my dignity yeah and so they put the wig back on his head and and all that stuff no more than the last way he has the wig on his head just like yeah it's just a line but it's the it's the but that's when we get hook being hook and goes to betray him yep and uh you know get some right up against the crock uh the original crock that's okay the crock tower yeah yeah yeah crock that was back to the future joker something uh say hey the crock tower you're gonna say the crock now he backs up against that he raises up that he raises up the hook you know he goes to hit to get him with the hook and peter blocks it and deflects it into the crocodile gas comes pulling out of the crock's bill you hear the rumble on the roar he drops the clock everybody's like what what's happening hopefully it's having fun either the crock falls forward and equivalent of basically eats captain hook my mommy yeah and he's and he disappears he's gone yeah we got a book yes we got a bird from him so uh and then that's basically you know peter do you have to leave us you know kind of thing and he's like well i've got to think of somebody to leave in charge but this could lead us perfectly into the trivia too yeah there's a great trivia question here yeah there's a great question so i think that's uh a cue for a certain music cute okay so now that launches us in to our trivia and i want to start this one out because there's there's we ended it a specific moment now if you don't know about this or even if you do this is just a wonderful piece of both okay do you know in this exact moment that i'm that i'm talking about where peter's got to decide who to give the sword to yeah none of the kids knew right yeah none of the kids knew who he was going to cheat on so it was always a surprise it was all a genuine reaction which is off mike we just discussed whether or not we should do this candidly which is ironic because the scene that we're talking about was done to get a candid reaction at kids reaction from you because he well no it pauses in front of a couple of me kind of slows you know when he's holding the sword up and then eventually stops in front of that uh enhanced end of sword and that's when uh i want you to protect everybody yeah everybody's smaller than you and that's when uh tiny uh step up and says well who am i supposed to protect never books and he goes never books little ones uh you know it doesn't know what i could only imagine that's probably robin's little too other and i i love the line that comes after that the team can make him blow and he's talking about the kids and they sprinkled the thoughts on me and i was like meggy that i'm grateful little shit you know it's like what's your happy money i'm gonna save your ass yeah i was all that little shit uh you know i was like i was like he's talking about that was jacks jack from my father jack's all my dad my dad you were being a little dick earlier um well jake jack you're the big you're like nagas your action though my dad's peter pan oh that was great oh such a great one that is a good one but uh you know to before we wrap with the rest of the trivia just to wrap the film up he gets back to london he sees windy again you know toodles talks about missing out on the adventures oh peter gives him his marbles and he's going on his own adventure his own adventure you know he flies off there's uh this is not the line off i will want to mention yes there's some some wonderful moments you know in that and peter you know he's back to saying you know hey you know what i just was on an adventure jane oh yeah jim hook and neverland and all this often just climb a wall yeah i gotta climb a dream bike i gotta climb a dream bike why why why why because i know i'm gonna be a busy day i know i can't flop that fly fly you know what if i always told you about this window always leave it open you know in that whole celebration of who he is you know and remembering his life yes and she says so i guess your adventure is over now boy and he goes no to live to live would be an awfully big adventure oh oh yeah as we're seeing kudos flying around in the air and everything i'm out of that age doing the spins of crap he was doing in the air yeah there's some puke or something oh yeah oh why do you think toodles without his teeth most of the time oh you can't fly with those things and they just come flop and i know it's snowing oh i there's so much wonderful trivia in this and i know that the field is done a lot so let's hear what we really got okay when the beginning uh when the uh when the band is flying to england the pilot's voice comes on over the intercom and it is not other than dust and hop and saying this is a captain's making it's awesome it's kind of it's towards like oh i'm here oh yeah i know we i know there are times when we've had really good reactions about stuff we will stage uh the re-creation of that reaction but it's not what that was like jeseria that again i found that out on the way here you know i i think i've always had it equally than like i think one of the most recent time not like last night but recently i read that piece of trick i was like oh so he was kind of like oh i know you're on your way in england oh yeah that's funny i love that uh maggie smith being only 56 years old at the time of filming was aged up i make up to make herself 92 year old granny windy um the kissing couple who begin to float when uh some of the fairy dust lands on them you know this one yes i do george luke's and sherry fissure yep uh and here's here's another snogging oh no this was like jillio robards was nicknamed tinker hell because he was so difficult to communicate and he asked to work with according to what trivia we've heard yeah another time is that is she actually halted production uh she put production in jeopardy because she uh i guess she really pulled a real life runway bride moment on key for another one and in order to you know get away from the turtablers everything she she ran off to i don't and nobody can get a hold and i got to a point where spiel uh spiel workers really frustrating i'm gonna fire her ass if she doesn't get back here you know so yeah it was it was just a little too early in the career yeah i would talk that up to definitely her early career where she's thinking oh i'm coming for pretty long so i'm a shit uh well but obviously i've heard different runways do in different capacities on other parts there's different right now which is not freaking perfect in total but then also to yeah i i'm sure it's just circumstantial yeah uh i'd like to throw a piece of trivia out there that i read which ties into one of our memorials that we just recently did uh one of the first people it was considered for the role yes of captain hook was david but he would have been interested i think he would have done a good job yeah he would have been a little too straight lice i think yeah a little too straight lice because boe's intimidating anyway he just has that transcendent like we talked about his memorial he just transcends everything uh whereas doesn't happen it was very aloof and you know not ha ha ha ha yeah about things can bring me pit up huh yeah exactly the goblin king do you think they would give him a bulge as uh captain hook the calm piece fish the coldest place where you go i also know that tom hanks was up for the role of uh pure pan oh wow yeah i think you would have done it coming close i would have liked to sing a movie with david boe and tom hanks that version of it it just is a flip flip the coin a little bit you know so anyway carry us on in sir about haskins bought beer for 300 plus extras after a lengthy and complicated seamless cut oh yeah beautiful that's bob haskins going like yours maybe people sit brings a beer here yeah that's a well as you can test on some some sets where there's large amounts of extras uh sometimes you don't get a chance for hours to go near a craft service table uh you know the ones that are set aside for the extra so you can be in a a whore house for two ones you're going to join with a half-naked woman yeah oh my god yes just one time yeah one time so anyway continue robin leams upper body and arms were shay for his role in this world we've never heard this Williams manscaped no i never continued little themes during this entire series uh why not exactly he and my god he landscaped in all the movies that you selected i'm sorry to worry about you with the exception of oh with the exception of the fish and uh uh muskall doesn't yes yeah no that's only something called natural he was russian he was yanny mary russian okay here's a good one steven spilberg admitted to being disappointed with the final result of the movie yeah which is interesting yeah yeah he had such a hard time working with the rebellious crew of the young actors that he later said only somewhat kiddingly that the experience made him wonder if he wanted to have any more kids uh he also felt guilty that he wasn't able to find an economical method to filming the many complex human fight sequences in the film however after robin leams death spilberg says he's now very glad he made the film because that's where he met right so you know from me uh we talked about john williams and the way that he conducted the film you know the music for the film i've got the opportunity to go see him live the hollywood bowl a couple of times if you ever get a chance he's usually there in august for a weekend or two uh go listen to his tribute to other composers as well as himself uh the music that he's done that people want to hear and if you're really lucky you'll get to hear him conduct a piece from hook which i've heard live and just just brings tears to your eyes because it takes you to that moment you know it really does but anyhow caring oh about huskins would later reply reprises role as me in neverland 2011 the 2011 tv movie right yeah so he had played played simead yeah uh oh kerry fissure did some uncredited rewriting on the final draft of the screenplay here farts so there's there's some interesting tidbits there uh you you tackled the david bowie one uh kerry fissure with steven spilberg's original prototype for tinkerbell oh and this is this is a piece of video like there was somebody on hand um for just uh for the purpose because um julia roberts was on uh you know was like flying most of the time yeah there was somebody whose job it was to wash julia roberts yes her feet yeah to make sure they didn't look all nasty on his job was that job uh hopefully roberts face somebody with a foot fetish turn to his early career oh god yeah turn to his early career oh yeah oh yeah julia i love him he's not a teacher i don't get his own oh they're turning to his early career oh yeah good lord oh my god uh i'm trying to happen to listen to this a whatever kink is more power to you uh the teddy bear from captain huks cabin was actually given to accidentally given to julia roberts by steven spilberg when she cracked into oh checked into hospital for nervous exhaustion spilberg realized his mistake the night before he was due to shoot a scene in huks cabin and the prop department had to rustle up a look-a-like in a matter of hours really yeah oh it was probably like during what we were talking about with lakita southern thing like for her early career to be such a net spot like such like a zoysia yeah yeah it can't happen where it's just like this this person needs to get in the hospital right now or they're gonna freakin freak out right here's one for you you know in the play in the play captain huks hook is on the right hand and in the film hook was placed on the left hand because dastin huffman is right handed yeah no no no no you were you were in the ballpark there uh 1985 composer john Williams and lyricist uh leslie brick you uh brick cussy brick cussy worked on hook being a stage musical but the project was scrapped after about ten songs were written only one song from the play when you're alone made it to the film however many of the play themes can be heard in leams uh incidental music um captain hooks actually looked at you covered this one it was largely designed by stowman spillberg and with the production designer of norman garwood uh in an emblem's prop master mark wade uh unless i've been lagged to which is possible the the person who actually cast it is the name his name is tony swine whoa there is right there bernie blacksmith tony swine yeah was then charged with physically crafting several days they probably came up with a design and he's the one that sketches and everything and then hand it off to yes yeah i just want to give you credit for this dude because you did this before right now he's he's the person who actually he'll take the design uh...
poorest you know or something out and then does all the etching and polishing so the final production you know the final piece that you see came from him and they look at it go oh yeah that's exactly what we need to do this right so i know that you know he had a hand in casting uh just one hand just one hand about the hook and petersord uh petered his family fly pan and airlines one of the s and create pan and one of the she actually went out of business on december fourth nineteen ninety one exactly one week before the films really right right uh uh those are those are really the big ones a lot there's a lot of those are definitely the ones i really wanted to showcase right and as always check them out the other way because there's a lot more there yeah right and you know and search that because there's a lot of stuff we've talked about that's not here yeah to to encompass the whole movie uh the reason i say it's such a family movie isn't that you can sit down and watch it without fear of any of the years hearing or boobies or yeah anything like that there's no coitus in this film uh what are you laughing for i'm sorry okay just give me the giggle okay uh this was an actual no-air episode yeah but uh this is a movie that really is something that reminds you of how important family is how important children are how important maintaining the childhood innocence is the ability to imagine and to create things without having to physically have anything in front of you you know just the ability to look at everything with such wide doe-eyed wonder and uh and i think hook just put you in touch with something inside of you that many of us growing up forget and um yeah so it's good to go back and be a lost boy once in a while and so i completely encourage you to watch us film and feel that same way and then go out and just do something spontaneous oh you know and just enjoy honestly i can sum it up better than you guys because with bicentennial man i kind of rolled with it somebody wasn't there for that one no that was me i wasn't there for that one but i do love that movie yeah and as this was a particular birthday pick for nik and as you guys say before him is obviously or favor on millions would be i couldn't add anymore to it honestly so with that we'll jump into our normal rabbit fires and since this is our finale of our ron and liam series of why not uh we're gonna go around give you two picks from ron and liams' career that we did not cover during okay this uh series of episodes and trust me this is not yet for Robin with us no it's just the thing to and the remembrance of his career celebrating his can in the work trust me we got pat jon's to roll with a lot more so to start that off our ratifiers i'll start off with uh one of his independent ones might call cut a dramatic one for him where he plays this uh editor in a distant future where everybody has these shifts in planning their earnings that records their entire lives yeah and he's going to the funeral and he's remembered to them their funerals and he's the top editor he sits down and edits all these together but during one of the editing sessions he discovers footage that is not really great to have for this person's funeral because it's cds stuff it's kind of back and forth between the pro-ship people and anti- ship people there's people that say no you should not have your life like this all right and vice versa but for my first rapifier it's going to be the final cut okay who wants to be able to go with good will hunting uh start up nub shit that's fine go ahead yeah good well hunting uh we didn't cover that right no yeah i'll go with a good well hunting for that because it's just uh one thing he helped finance that movie and this is though that's the one where he actually won his academy award for best supporting the audience and actually gone mid because before that uh like the wincing we're telling that and uh Ben like you got how about in here you have to have an in here and they got wrong they did and it was a it was a good one it was a good one to break in both uh matt daman and manaphic as actors and uh you know introduce the world and that's like hey these guys are pretty awesome and they got on the other side that's what they were there yeah yeah yeah which actually uh kensmeth had a hand in all of that so yeah um does that are you good with that or not all right i'm going to go with patch atoms uh i know we've talked about it but we we we never covered it in this run let's go grab that one too so let's go go back well patch atoms first of all because you know it's actually in a way because my my mother was a nurse you know my wife is a nurse you know and they both understand the importance of what it's like to really care for patients yes you can go in and you can you can care for somebody you can give them the medical care that they need but sometimes the most healing thing is your bedside manner and in patch atoms we learn that there's no better laughter or there's no better medicine than laughter uh you know for these kids who are just so in such an abysmal and dismal state with their different life threatening diseases whether it be cancer or leukemia or you know whether it's sickle cell anemia or whatever it might be that was affecting the kids it was going in there and showing that medicine is not just giving care it's showing care and showing love as well i absolutely love that movie so that's my first pick i guess the cap off my round um it's a hard pick because they're so freaking many yeah and i don't want to give like the honorable mention thing because like we said we're going to be covering more of the stuff over over our lifespan so i'm going to cap mine with this which you just see a lot of this master craftsman in the world of comedy and just improvivat improvisations and just have a watch and tell they had fun on that set like there there's a behind-a-scene drama that happened with the director and everything like that and it was there but also to seen Robin as rainbow Randolph just being a host to the 10th degree but then you see that he's the kitty show host on crack basically you want your little buttery don't my show? yeah and it's just like a rainbow fucking random and there's still one scene where he tackles uh like eating nong oh yeah and he falls and everything and the cops are trying to pick up rainbow randos like are you okay he's like i'm okay but i forget the entire line but the delivery has it in one breath it's like what's telling Robin right there oh yeah so to round mine up it's going to be death's movie okay i think i round mine up i would have to say jamaica oh good for you sir i was hoping somebody was gonna do yeah i love that movie we just watched this like two days ago my daughter and i oh and you sounds a bitches i so need back out now please oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah the remake why what doesn't need to be remade and that's one of the wonderful things about it there's actually just the right amount of the cg elements the cg elements in that movie they were they were effects that were very new at the time but what i loved is the fact that because they were new they weren't they didn't outshine Robin Williams you know especially the part where you know he's like sinking into the quicksand stuff like that i mean uh they're really uh there's really good visuals in there and it's really nice to see him something the best way to compare the special types in that movie is like when i first initially watched the original Superman movie Chris were even thing it was forever like i no idea to watch it but just kind of got around to it and Nick finally threatened enough while he harmed to me that i needed to finally thought to watch it and watch it and the first flight scene i'm expecting just being able to see what he did like because you can kind of tell it in certain special effects right i mean it's yeah it's 78 so let's see yeah you're looking at what's so fluid in just perfect where it's like oh wow well i mean there's reference that there's moments in that in the 78 Superman like after he rescues the helicopter and he flies back up and he sets it down you're like damn how did he and then he flies kind of up and backwards away from Lois intentionally yeah the shots done intentionally like i was flying up in mappers and you watch it and you're like holy hell how do they do that yeah because i mean if it's cable work it's flawless cable work in jimongi what it was for me wasn't just the CGI but they paired CGI with practical effects yeah if you saw the lion coming down you know like stepping down off the uh you know onto the piano and all that stuff that's all practical when you see him running along later on you know something that's CGI so that made the it was a task yeah so made the task even harder for the CGI people to really get right because you had animals that did have practicality in it um you know like the spiders or you know those were practical you know effects and things like that the uh the makeup effects on the kit yeah the plant that grabs them in the house as opposed to the vine that comes out and tears the car in half and full didn't you know they all had to have a realistic feel to it and this is another one of those films where his father uh was the hunter uh played the hunter as well and was that scary intimidating forcing his life just like the father was you know this just as we get captain hook uh-huh as the voice of the captain on panam airline when you look at ron's actual life not saying his dad was this domineering figure and everything it was kind of a relationship with his dad too yes like his mom was the one that instituted like the sense of humor and everything his dad was the staunch businessman right so i'm sorry you guys are right now mate uh anyway no i'm really glad that you touched on jimongi um i'm a little torn because there was jimongi was one one i was gonna pick but i'm a little torn here between two films one being jack oh beautiful movie and the other one being good morning Vietnam oh uh sexy or the cartoon voice on give them both why don't you give them both the strengths well i gave them a birthday boy you get jack is another one of those the almost a real world version of a peter pan it's a child who's trapped in the body of an aging man and uh you know you get some wonderful scenes with he and friend restor where he's you know she's making out with him in a certain thing you know you get see boobies and stuff like that but you follow him as he grows and you know going from this where i'm a little kid stuck in this aging body and trying to fit in and how everybody loves him so much and how he has to connect with his humanity and make the most of what it is and again it's all done with this child like wonder and uh and there's there's not an aspect of the movie that i didn't just absolutely love you know the supporting family and all that like jack is a very emotional movie especially the finale speech with oh this is a commencement speech you have a value of sports yeah especially now more than ever more than ever well you know there's yeah yeah absolutely absolutely but uh you know that's Robin Williams had the ability to to suspend our belief better than most actors ever could hope to and could bring you into a world and and it touched you on some level uh i mean look at even with a one-hour photo yeah they come to find out that all you really wants is just to have a good family you know and so many people struggle with that you know in this day and age of quick marriage quick divorce you know and other than the quick marriage quick divorce just marriages that last forever that just i'm like you get a bigger yeah or a segment they don't you know they're just in it to be in it you know and but he was able it's the absolute beauty and and majesty of film which allows you to go and experience something and take you out of your world for a little bit and i don't think anybody could transport you better to those those realms than Robin Williams could yes a lot of the times it was a supporting cast as well you know that really went along with him on that journey but he firmly wore that captain's hat you know to quote goodwill hunting you know i'm sorry uh dead post-aside oh captain my captain i follow him to the ends of the earth watching every film that he did you know and so you know for me to close it out with good morning Vietnam uh it is now you know what i'm sorry i'm gonna save this one for a future recording if we choose to do a one on the road i would rather end it on the on the magnificence and the the the all inspiring childlike nature that Robin Williams was so handily and readily able to tap into that just left me mysticized and feeling like a child again and reinvigorated and i you know i just so thankful that we were able to go along on these journeys with him and that we've been able to have him for as long as we had um i'm sad that he's gone i'm you know i was horribly crushed when he was gone but what a wonderful beacon of light that he left in the world for us to follow so you know if anybody can expire to to touch that greatness or to be part of that greatness uh Robin Williams was a man to do that so no there's nothing more i can say um so i guess to i'll throw this in play um i want to thank you guys for plinking me on the idea of doing these why not so oh no problem absolutely because i know because i know yeah the passing of Robin like fuck does all it did and honestly more than anybody that has passed even family member wise like this the passing of Robin has been asked to be honest and looking back at his why not and what we did with all these and everything to be able to show like maybe a little lesser no work some more known some lesser note and just keep that flame going well this introduced me to Moscow in the Hudson and i absolutely love that film but yeah you know you you may not understand this but because of the love that you have for Robin Williams because of the the passion that you've had for what he's done and the the path that he blazed for us it inspired your creativity and that more than anything speaks volumes to the legacy of Robin Williams yeah that he inspired you to keep going and push forward and to do what we love doing anyways and do it in a way to pay tribute to him and open eyes for other people and bring awareness to films like you said that people may not have known but just really pay tribute in more than just one episode to somebody that that touched you on a level that was like family to you or the transcendent family yeah and that's i'm glad we got to go along in this ride yeah that was a great ride and to close it out like how we've always been closing it out honestly if you have to ask why to rob the volumes listen to all these episodes for a very reason yeah clearly and to really give a better topper than we could ever do for these series of episodes i stumbled across the song by cilogrion that i revealed to you guys just recently and that's what we're gonna close out with right now is cilogrion song Robin Williams and enjoy Robin Williams
