Why Only 5 Countries Have Embassies In Jerusalem
from The Daniel Rosehill Podcast Hosted by Daniel Rosehill
This week Papua New Guinea became the fifth country to open an embassy to Israel in Jerusalem with its Prime Minister officiating upon the opening of an embassy in the Malha Technology Garden in the south of the city. However given that Israel enjoys diplomatic relations with over 160 countries and almost 100 of them have representative missions to Israel, why was the island nation only number five? This video looks at the diplomatically thorny subject of opening embassies in Jerusalem and explores why only a handful of countries have so far chosen to endorse Israel's sovereignty over the contested city by making that decision. == Timestamps == Intro - 00:00 Papua New Guinea opens Jerusalem embassy - 00:04 Malha Technology Park - 00:10 Israel's diplomatic relations - 00:30 Forms of diplomatic representation - 00:55 Israel's worldwide embassy network - 01:10 Tel Aviv embassies - 01:20 Embassy of Ireland in Israel - 01:30 Ambassador residences - 01:40 Corpus separatum - 02:05 Facts on the ground - 02:30 Why countries open embassies in Jerusalem - 03:00 US embassy Jerusalem opening - 03:13 First embassies in Jerusalem - 03:20 Costa Rica moves back to Tel Aviv - 03:31 Guatemala Embassy in Jerusalem - 03:47 Example embassy building - 04:10 Embassy of Kosovo in Jerusalem - 04:20 Embassy of Honduras in Jerusalem - 04:30 Consulates in Jerusalem - 05:00 #diplomacy #jerusalem #internationalpolitics
