Why study a book of the Bible that begins with the words “Vanity of vanities... all is vanity”? Ecclesiastes confronts some of humanity's biggest questions: What is the meaning of life? Why are we dissatisfied even when we have so much? Why is there suffering and injustice? Does God care? Solomon possessed extraordinary wealth, wisdom, power, and opportunities for pleasure, yet discovered that everything this world offers ultimately fails to provide lasting meaning. Ecclesiastes allows us to learn from his experience rather than repeating the same mistakes ourselves. But Ecclesiastes is not ultimately a message of despair. Pastor Miller explains that the book exposes the futility of placing our hope in earthly things so that we might instead place our hope in the everlasting God.
