Why Pride Is the Real Reason the Devil Won't Leave You Alone

If you've been trying to resist the devil and it isn't working, the real issue might not be strategy, it's pride. In today's Daily Hope, Pastor John S. Dickerson continues the study in James 4 and shows the direct link between pride and spiritual defeat, and between humility and spiritual victory. James 4:6 says, "God opposes the proud, but shows favor to the humble," and Pastor Dickerson traces this all the way back to Lucifer himself, who fell not from weakness but from pride. Even Jesus, tempted in the wilderness after forty days, resisted Satan's offer of an easier path by submitting himself to God instead. Submitting to God and resisting the devil are two sides of the same coin, and the entry point for either one is what's happening in your heart: pride or humility. You can have a good goal, even a godly one, and still let pride talk you into pursuing it the wrong way. Today's a good day to ask God to show you where pride has quietly crept in.
