Our Musashi book club continues Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa with Musashi Book 2, Water: Miyamoto Musashi takes on the Yoshioka School, the Hozoin spear temple and the priest Nikkan, and Yagyu Sekishusai, with Jotaro, Matahachi, and Musashi and Otsu along the way. It's Musashi explained and summarized, a samurai novel of historical fiction and Japanese literature, the classic literature behind the Vagabond manga.Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa — Book Two, Water. Musashi walks out of Himeji Castle the strongest fighter in Japan, and an old priest tells him that is exactly his problem. The Paradyme book club takes on the second volume of Yoshikawa's samurai epic: the Yoshioka ambush, the Hozoin spear temple, thirty men on Hannya Plain, a peony stem cut so cleanly it exposes a master, and the flute that makes Musashi run.Book Two follows the newly named Miyamoto Musashi as he tests three years of study against the real schools of the sword. We cover the Yoshioka school conspiring to ambush him, Matahachi discovering his old friend has become someone, the Osugi confrontation at Kiyomizu where Musashi refuses to fight, and the eleven-year-old Jotaro attaching himself as a disciple. The middle is the Hozoin temple: Musashi kills the spear priest Agon in one move and the elderly Nikkan tells him he is too strong, then thirty men wait for him on Hannya Plain and he cuts down seven ronin before his twentieth breath. The back half is Koyagyu — the peony stem only Musashi can read, Jotaro killing the castle dog, Musashi throwing the boy as a weapon to force a fight, Otsu's flute breaking his stance, and the poem on Sekishusai's gate that stops him cold. We end on the two men inside Musashi, Otsu choosing to follow him anyway, and Takuan warning her where that road leads.⏱ Chapters00:00 Book Two Water Begins00:53 The Yoshioka School Plans an Ambush07:49 Matahachi Wakes Up Four Years Late15:29 Osugi at Kiyomizu I Cant Do It19:40 Jotaro the Water Sprite24:28 Akemi and Otsu Cross Paths31:32 Hozoin Temple You Are Too Strong42:22 Hannya Plain Thirty Men57:10 Koyagyu and the Yoshioka Brother01:01:13 The Peony Stem01:06:35 Jotaro Kills the Dog01:16:30 The Nightingales Sekishusai01:22:57 Two Men Inside Musashi01:28:54 Wrap UpConnect With Us:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6Ox9OW23KIzXnvSlPzfinpApple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/paradyme/id1584283909IG: https://www.instagram.com/paradymebrand/Twitter: https://twitter.com/prdmbrandYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ParadymeBrand/featured?sub_confirmation=1If you have any concerns about our show please reach out viaEmail: [email protected]#bookclub #books #literature #ClassicLiterature #EijiYoshikawa #HistoricalFiction #Hozoin #JapaneseLiterature #Jotaro #Matahachi #MiyamotoMusashi #Musashi #MusashiBook2 #MusashiBook2Water #MusashiBookClub #MusashiEijiYoshikawa #MusashiExplained #MusashiNovel #MusashiOtsu #MusashiSummary #Nikkan #SamuraiNovel #Vagabond #VagabondManga #YagyuSekishusai #YoshiokaSchool #Paradyme #ParadymeBrand #ParadymePodcast #Paradigm #ParadigmBrand #ParadigmPodcast
