from Buckeyes TomOrrow Morning · host Buckeye Insiders Network
Heading into week one of the 2024 college football season, a lot of fans expect the top of the sport to be very predictable. After all, what are the odds that teams like Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and Oregon aren't left standing after the quarterfinals of the newly expanded College Football Playoff? And isn't the entire 12-team CFP field going to be taken from the same predictable group of teams as well?As it turns out, history suggests that a 12-team College Football Playoff field would be incredibly unpredictable. Ralph Russo of the Associated Press found that on average over the last 10 seasons, a 12-team CFP field would have consisted of:4 of the top-5 teams in the preseason AP Poll2 of the teams ranked from 6-10 in the preseason AP Poll2 of the teams ranked from 11-20 in the preseason AP Poll1 of the teams ranked from 21-25 in the preseason AP Poll3 teams not ranked at all in the preseason AP PollSo following that formula, what might the 2024 College Football Playoff field look like? It turns out, things could get pretty crazy. Tony Gerdeman of BuckeyeHuddle.com joins host Tom Orr to make their predictions based on the historical model.
